So, the holidays are over, like, officially, which means you can now settle back into the routine you call a life. As you do, here are a few things you should keep an eye out for in 2012. It's the Famous Quick List:
New business: So, it might be easiest to just list all the restaurants/bars/cafes/art galleries/etc. that have recently opened/reopened/ or expanded (or will be doing so soon), because there are a lot. In no order (and by no means defenitive): Fresno Brewing Company, the Yardhouse, Iron Bird Cafe, Fulton Village, Biz Werx, Blimpie, P*DE*Q, Pino Wine Bar and Bistro, Tower Cafe, Casa Corona, Anvil Gallery & Studio, Zen Wok Fusion, Tower Sports Club, The Lamp Post and Charming Charlie.
Politics: Somehow it came as a shock that this is a presidential election year. Like, didn't we just elect Barack Obama? What have I been sleeping for three years? Anyway, that whole process is starting up again. I'm getting all tensed just thinking about it. For political junkies it's going to either be a 1.) blast or 2.) the most excruitiating thing ever.
Locally, mayor Ashley Swearengin is up for reelection.
Music: As mentioned early this week, local promotions machine Love the Captive is starting the year off strong with several good shows (and a solid Monday night slot at Veni Vidi Vici in the Tower). Add to that the shows that seem to be coming through the all-age venues (Bel-Tower, CYC) and it looks like 2012 is going to be good for fans of live music.
Winter: Well, we sure haven't felt it yet.
