Call it a balancing in the force.

When Iron Bird Cafe closed down this summer, it left a major hole in the cultural arts/mural district and totally bummed out a lot of people (myself included). So There when rumors started circulating that something was in the works for the space and that that something would be a new venure from Ann Liao (who runs the Teazer tea shsop), I was overjoyed.

Today I got to see what the something looks like as Iron Bird Cafe (2.0) opened its doors.

This is day one and things seemed a bit hectic (in a good way), but I was impressed: The new design and decor keep the best elements of the original cafe, while softening things up a bit. Shelving units divide the space and give it a cozier feel. The brewing apapratus for the iced-coffee (which takes 6 hours! What?) is set up near the front counter. It's a neat twist and a cool visual element. The art of the walls is well chosen.

I didn't get to sample to food, but the menu seems interesting and the food I saw going out looked delicious. There are sandwiches and salads, along with several small-plate options.

Kevin Lindholm is back behind the bar and the cappuccino I had was superb, which is a vague was of saying the espresso had just enough bite and the foam was spot on. I don't think I've had a cappuccino since IBC (1.0) closed, so this was a treat and the first of many to come. There is a variety of hot and cold brews, along with teas, blended drinks and the like.

One other thing that's changed. The place has table service now. So, if you're ordering to go, feel free to step up to the counter. If you're going to stay awhile, just take a seat  and down a waitress to help you. Either way, go. It looks like Ann has put together a great place with a good product.

We'll make sure to check it out. I had a good bowl of beans at Revive the other day. It revived me. Sometimes a steaming hot bowl of beans can make me go into a cognitive dream-state where everything comes clear. Especially my identity and purpose in life. Other than that it was a good bowl of beans.
