Fresno can change if you stop talking and take action!
The road I live on is called Calaveras Street. It is located in the downtown area of Fresno. Folks who live in Fresno and other communities love to bang on about how beastly my road is and how horrid downtown is. Feeling seems to be that what was will always be. Rubbish.
That my road is not brilliant is well known. That downtown Fresno is a body in search of a soul is also well known. Folks have sat on the side lines and watched with glee at the problems of my road and the battle to save downtown. Almost as if they want it to fail and thereby have a reason to proclaim; "Told you so!"
I am passionate about trying to make my neighbors better neighbors. I am also passionate about downtown coming into its own. And I do something about it. I bang on endlessly about my road, my neighbors and Fresno. Folks are listening and change is happening.
Yesterday I called the copper to report a motor left on my road that I thought might have been nicked. It was. The chap who owned it had just purchased for $4000.00 on Saturday, only to have it nicked on Sunday.
The efforts of myself and my neighbors got his motor returned to him in pretty much the condition it was. Bloody brilliant.
The moral of this story is that folks are dead wrong about my road and downtown. The chap who came to get his motor lives in Sanger, and it was good neighbors on my road, downtown, who did the impossible.
Stop banging on about how horrid the coppers are, how mean my road is, and how Fresno is caught in a timewarp. Stand up to the drug dealers. Tell them to bugger off when they try to sell poison. Call the coppers. DO Something to make change happen. Your city needs you.
