You know how sometimes you wake up on Friday morning and can't figure out where the week went? Like, you know you went to work on Monday, and there is a haze of hump day in there somewhere, but it all went by so fast ...
That's my Februray.
Which is top of mind because March 3 will mark the official start of Rogue Festival and I am in two shows in various stages of completion. Plug: Mark "Birds and Bees: A Cost/Benefit Analysis" and "The Big Show" in your Rogue calendar.
If you haven't been to the performing arts festival, for shame. It's in its 10th year and continues to grow both in performers and audience. This year it looks like there are some heavy hitters. Below you'll find my must-see choices:
* Yesterday Once More: Carpenters Tribute
Everyone has at least one Carpenters song that they LOVE. It might be a guilty pleasure they don't talk about, but it still exists. Mine is Superstar. Plus, this is from Katie Lewis and Lisa Kao so you know it'll be done well.
* Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde with live soundtrack
This is actually my No. 1 pick for the festival and the Rogue show I have been waiting for since 2008, when the Rhoda Penmarks created and performed a live score for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. You can read more about this show over at the Fresnan.
I'll see anything this guy does, mostly cause I met him and I like him. But his stuff is good too. This year's he performing and showing the film he put together while he was here last year.
* Cap'n Scurvy's Ragnorok Hootenanny Jamboree
This is billed as guerrilla vaudeville Americana, which is enough to get me in the door. So, the marketing worked.
* Spitting in the Face of the Devil
I always pick one show on name alone. This was it. And then I saw the promo flier. And then I read the performance blurb. It looks and sounds amazing.

Plug Away . . .
And a plug for the Visual Arts component at the Rogue Gallery - City Arts Gallery, RogueHop and the Kick Off Party STARTS at 5pm on Thursday, March 3rd with the premiere of the Rogue Art and the artists will be there too. Unfortunately, this was not included in the Rogue blurb in the 7 Things To Do list in today's Fresno Bee 7. During the run of the festival you can buy the art and there will also be the Artists Talks again this year too, when the public has a chance to sit down with the artists, hear them speak about their work and ask questions. It's cool. I'll be talking about it on Central Valley Buzz today 4-6pm.
Every year I go to at least one show that I'm in (oh, I make a funny...)...so this year it's definitely Big Show or Bust.
Then I gotta see Birds&Bees and the Carpenters thing..cuz I got pals in 'em.
And then I gotta check out the website a bit more and enjoy one of the funnest bits about the Rogue Festival: working the puzzle of when to go where!
