Fresno from another perspective

Downtown Fresno is not really the place to go.

It's full of homeless, it's dirtyand the stores down there are either shut down, or in dire need of renovation. And even if something was down there, it's dangerous, so we should all stay in northern Fresno.

Or so you might think. But to be honest it's not true. I mean every bit of prejudice has at least some truth to it, but in this case, most of it is either exaggerated or outdated. I know this is not a fair comparison, but look at New York or London, you'll find their downtowns are dirty, old and full of homeless as well, so what's the difference? People will tell you that those cities are edgy, but have lots of art and culture.

So if that's what you're looking for, check out the Mural District in downtown Fresno during art hop.Of course, the scale in which all that happens is not as large as in the before mentioned cities, but the sheer amount of participants is quite impressive.

Besides art, what has downtown going for it? Actually quite a lot. New offices are created, renovated, restaurants and bars are opening, old buildings are being restored and lofts are leased to young professionals. I wouldn't say downtown is booming, but I'm sure it will be in a few years time.

So in essence, Fresno downtown is not nearly as bad, as most people think it is, it isn't as great as other cities downtowns, but it very well has the potential to be!
