Oh, you think you know, as you sit there humming "Billy don't you lose my number." As many times as you've heard him in your dentist office waiting room, as down with '80s music as you think you are...you are wrong.

You CANNOT tell Phil Collins apart from Genesis.

Case in point? Sloganeerist's quiz: Was that Genesis, or Straight Up Phil Collins?

Try it. I DARE YOU. Take the quiz. The answer key is there, as well.

DOUBLE. DOG. DARE YOU.

ANSWER KEY: Go here.

As Phil Collins sat back there on the drum riser, playing drums in Genesis for years and years, he listened very, very closely to lead singer Peter Gabriel. When he finally stepped off the riser to become a lead singer, it was almost like magic, he sounded exactly like Mr. Gabriel! It has served him well. I love Genesis with Peter Gabriel, not so much the Phil Collins version.

Here's my favorite Genesis song, Firth of Fifth from Selling England by the Pound 1973. I'm sure Phil sang this hundreds of times touring with Genesis, and most of the audience never knew it was a different singer that made it originally.

I guess lightning does strike twice in the same place.
