Downtown Fresno... Alive & Kicking!!
As a newcomer to Fresno, I have only heard bad things about the downtown area. Whether it was the gang activity or the lack of parking, downtown Fresno was never described in a good light. This year, however, I decided to take it upon myself to explore some of Fresno’s most unknown treasures. The first thing you think about when you go downtown is the scenery. You cannot help but take it all in; the big, old, & beautiful buildings that overpopulate the downtown area instantly put you in a vintage type of mood. The tall buildings and the large, vast theaters peak your interest and invite you to walk around only to see what else you might find. Living arrangements are absolutely spectacular, from the grand 11th floor luxury lofts located on the Fulton Mall which give you arguably the greatest view in Fresno to Reza Assemi’s H street lofts which are minutes away from all of the major highways (41, 99, and 180). Parking is no issue whatsoever as there are parking structures, meter parking, and parking lots within seconds of wherever it is you’re trying to go. I believe there is something crazy like 4 spaces available for every person that drives downtown. The food can only be described as delicious and authentic, most establishments are anything but corporate. We are talking about amazing food with unique flavors that you would only be able to find in a downtown location. When you walk into most of these restaurants it’s like you have stepped into an entirely new world. The ambiance takes you out of Fresno and puts you in a welcoming environment only to be surpassed by the service. Karma, for example, offers a small menu but the flavors and freshness of the food more than make up for the lack of variety. Entertainment in downtown Fresno is NOT hard to find whatsoever. Fulton 55 offers a unique a layout that supports the acoustics of those that come to entertain. Liquor license? You bet! They even plan on hosting their first comedy show in the beginning weeks of April. Anyone looking for a good time and some good music should look no further that Fulton 55. Not to mention other downtown Fresno hotspots i.e. Club one Casino, Full Circle Brewery, Heroes (Open Sunday Nights!!!) etc…. Downtown Fresno is a wonderful place and believe it or not it used to be a thriving part of Fresno full of entertainment, people, and good times. For those of you complaining about downtown Fresno I have but one thing to tell you, don’t knock it until you try it! Who knows, you may just fall in love.
