Navigating Downtown Fresno

Getting around Downtown Fresno can seem complicated to people who are unfamiliar with the area. With it's one way streets and which way does Divisadero run? As it turns out, Divisadero runs almost exactly east to west. The streets south of Divisadero run at an angle because they are parallel to the railroad tracks.

Another factor that complicates things is the block numbers are distinct from the block numbers in the other parts of Fresno. For example, south of Divisadero on Broadway is the 2000 block. On the other side of Divisadero, you will find the 100 block of North Broadway, even though there was a 100 block of Broadway on the other end of downtown.

Here is a tip from a local, use H Street. It only has three lights on it through the whole area. It's usually free of traffic also.

I have written a few tips about navigating Downtown Fresno at Fresno Urban.

You can see that story here.

Another thing I thought of after posting this article, Divisadero means divider in Spanish. This is fitting because the street runs across the northern top of Downtown and it divides the streets that run parallel to the tracks from those streets that are aligned north and south.
