Fresno Musicians Rally in Support of the Yang Family
Some of Fresno's finest musicians have joined together in support of the Yang Family, victims of last month's tragic trailer fire. The benefit concert on Sunday afternoon April 30 will feature a wide array of musical styles with the goal of bringing together diverse communities who don't often meet under one roof.
Tower rock and pop fans will groove to the music of Blake Jones Trike Shop. Jazz lovers will get their weekly fix from Lisa Kao and her Big Night Out ensemble, including local legends Rich Severson on guitar and Gary Newmark on drums. Blues aficionados will get a healthy dose of blues mixed with roots rock from JP and the Hellhounds. The younger Asian crowd will be represented by Oceans Front, a talented, all Hmong, all Fresno State student rock and pop band. A group of traditional Hmong dancers and some special musical guests will round out the afternoon's festivities.
On the evening of March 19, a mobile home housing twelve members of the Yang family caught fire, resulting in the tragic deaths of Shee Yang, 22, Ia Yang 15, and Pakou Yang, 13. Five-year-old Kyle Yang is still in the hospital being treated for third degree burns. The family lost everything they owned in the blaze, including their vehicles. They had just moved to Clovis to start a new life when the tragedy occurred. Their oldest son, Shee was about to Graduate from CSUF in May, a giant step toward fulfilling the family's dream of a better life.
Music fans of all ages are encouraged to come out and support the Yang Family in this difficult time. There is no cover charge, but a donation of $20 or more is suggested.
