Never let it be said that this old geezer is on a downer. Do read on and listen to the tune and later when you click on other links realize that come what may LIFE on Calaveras is not going to get me discouraged in the least. My dears, get comfy and read on............

One has to be right proud of the brilliant folks who this old geezer know here in Fresno. Am gobsmacked at the love and support they show efforts to reach out to folks on the road and in the neighborhood. Mind, there are some who have to be taken there kicking and dragging and still not completely in tune with what is reality(Listen up Councilwoman Sterling).

The March in the Alley behind 433 N Calaveras was done in the hope that folks who live on that part of the road would share the concern and join in. Tenants of 433 N Calaveras stayed away in droves. One lady who tries to have courage could only muster up enough to march one short lap, and still another lady from my part of the road managed one lap as well. In chatting with folks who live at 433 N Calaveras before the march, most planned to stay away, they did not want to be seen supporting efforts to clean up the alley or the neighborhood. To be true, there were folks looking at the march and while they said it was a good thing, they refused to join in the march. Courage is lacking there. Being public in the fight against drug dealers selling 'poison' and 'ladies of the night' working in the alley is not done. Not by the folks most hurt by the problem, and not by residents who should be more concerned.

MOI was joined by folks he is quite fond of. Susan Good was there, in point of fact she was the first to show. Susan ran for a seat on the City Council and yesterday was a full schedule for her.(More on Susan later). Elliott Balch, a brilliant chap from State Assemblyman Juan Arambula's office, was there. Elliott was filling in for Sarah who got ill(do hope she is better) and my admiration for him grows daily. He is one of the bright lights that shine brightly in Fresno and we are lucky to have him. Andy who lives downtown was there, he is a brilliant chap who really cares and shows support for all in Fresno who need help, not just his corner of the City. Chuck who is legally blind and is a member of this site was there. Chuck is one who tries to make a difference and does not let personal challenges stand in the way of his commitment to making Fresno a better place to live. Paul, my flatmate was there. God bless him, he put on the "Grim Reaper' costume and marched.

Councilwoman Sterling was there, she brought Gregory Barfield and Erica from her office. She also brought another chap. Councilwoman Sterling HAD to be there, would have been shocking if she had not been there. Councilwoman Sterling is ever the politician. She can get elected but is 'out of touch' with the folks who live on Calaveras and never has got it when it came to what ails the road. She will depart office in 2010 and remain clueless as to the harm she did the folks who live on Calaveras and the neighborhood. MOI was going to force a recall of Councilwoman Sterling. Why bother, monies spent to do would be better spent elsewhere and truth be told, change can come to Calaveras and the neighborhood by simply going round her. Councilwoman Sterling is lucky to have a devoted staff that tries to protect her from herself and the 'part time' efforts on her part are covered by the 'full time' efforts of her staff.

Councilwoman Sterling should never have run for public office if she lacked the ability to protect the folks on Calaveras or the City of Fresno. She gives politicians a bad name. She lends weight to MOI calling her and present members of the City Council DWARFS. Had thought Councilwoman Sterling obtuse, got it wrong. Councilwoman Sterling is not clever enough to be obtuse, she is just completely DAFT. There is no love lost between MOI and Councilwoman Sterling, and will continue to bang away at her and her 'sin of omission'.

Officer David Rady and Officer Brian Ridenour were at the march. There were other coppers there as well. What is not to like about coppers who fight the good fight day in and day out and try to make a difference. Just like Officer Smith and Officer Tello, they try daily to make a difference in the lives of neighbors on Calaveras and the neighborhood. The March was important because it shines the light on what is really the problem of Calaveras and the neighborhood. Folks all know that drug dealers selling 'poison', whores and gangs use to kill the community. However hard the coppers fight to improve life there, the folks who could stop the problem do not back them completely. They say they want a change but they will not come forward and help. MOI will continue to support the efforts of the coppers to make a difference, even if the neighbors there do not. Even if Councilwoman Sterling continues to be blinkered to conditions there.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clhxNHb0v3E Indulge MOI, listen to tune. It is a silly thing to hear, but is it?? While pushing a coffin down the road, bringing the 'Grim Reaper', blowing whistles and waving placards hardly qualifies as strutting proudly on road, it brings out what is wrong with the road and the neighbors. How on earth can folks there feel brilliant when the ignore raw garbage dumped in the alley. Cast off furniture and graffiti. Dirt and grime. Collectively, Councilwoman Sterling and her office, the tenants and slumlords should be ashamed at conditions on that part of the road. Civic Pride is a lesson hard to teach to folks who are willing to settle for less in life.

The folks who turned out to march are brilliant. They all had tags on shirts that showed that they had voted as well. I am right proud to know each and every one. The exception is Councilwoman Sterling, who only was there because she had to be there. She did not want to draw more attention to her inability to be a real force for change .

MOI ended a long day by going to the home of Susan Good. MOI met many brilliant folks there. MOI had a right good time and stayed until late. Sadly, Susan did not win her race to join the City Council. She is still here and still going to work hard for the folks of Fresno. I am right proud to know her and call her friend. MOI has a long memory.

Lee Brand won. He had called yesterday and wished MOI well with the march. Can hardly wait for him to get on the City Council. A lovely man.

Gobsmacked MOI was to see Councilwoman Sterling show up at the party at Susan Good's home. She ate and made time to do an interview for a local chat show on the radio. MOI overheard Councilwoman Sterling saying for the chat show that she hoped that Obama and Clinton would join forces and be united as a 'dream ticket' to secure the White House. This coming for a councilperson who lends support to one running for public office and hides that support. Must be nice to eat the food of a person you did nothing public to help win. Councilwoman is a real snake in the grass, with friends like her, you never know where you stand. Better to air kiss one in race for city council, all the while sucking up to sitting member far away. Nice to see that Councilwoman Sterling it two faced to one and all.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxUC_UcKFJk MOI has used this tune before. There is no personal statement being made. It just tries to make a point. Point being that unless the folks who live at 433 N Calaveras step up and have pride in selves, nothing is going to change. That applies to all of the neighbors who live on Glenn who use the alley as well. As long as folks who live on that part of the road are will ing to step over rubbish, allow children to see graffiti and raw garbage and be a part of their playground, ignore whores pulling tricks in the ally and drug dealers selling 'poison', no one will take them seriously. To be brilliant, one has to act brilliant. Right hard to feel brilliant about folks who will not help themselves. Pride is a wonderful thing, lack of pride destroys lives, road, neighborhood and the future.

MOI will keep trying.............

On my street they regularly send out notes to all property owners we are coming to inspect your alley. If its not clean the City wil do the work and you will pay the cost.
My property is fenced and I don't use the alley. Why should I clean up other peoples trash or pay?
Funny thing is the City doesn't enforce it's own rules. Or is it selective enforcement? There are two house around here that are major alley dumping grounds.
One is for sale by the "Queen" of Huntington Blvd. You know the old "crow" with the out dated Jakie Kennedy hairstyle. I guess the City looks the other way for slumlords.
Going down Calaveras I noticed propertys that have lots of code violations based on papers the City sends my neighborhood. All Ms. Sterling has to do is send Code Enforcement to check for violations.
Also have you checked to make sure the slumlords have business permits. A simple anymous note to the State Franchise Tax Board and to the IRS about not reporting income can get slumlords in hot water fast.
Also since you live on a "Historic" street take a page from the "Queen" of Huntington's playbook. Make your street shine. Get sponsors and for the 4th of July put American flags on lightposts down Calaveras.
For Christmas decorate, light up the street and add speakers to your buildings front and play soft christmas carols. Bring the street to life.
Maybe a flyer showcasing the history and the beautiful houses an your street. Make it a tourist attraction.
The more attention you bring to the street the less druggies and whores will hang out there. But when slumlords rent to them they bring thier kind around.
Do you check with the police and see how many times police come out to slumlord properties?
If it's alot the city can declare the proprty a public nuisance and confiscate it. Maybe its time to work that angle.

Andy, am gobsmacked at number of folks who tell MOI that it is no big deal, graffiti that is.

Perhaps they should see just how horrid it can be, or have some clever clog thing it is cute to tag the back of their home.

Just another 'little' thing that gives the impression that a road or neighborhood does not care. For my part, if I go into a stor or restaurant and see graffiti in the loo, I complain, and if it is not removed, MOI shops or easts elsewhere.

When the brilliant chaps came onto road to paint road signs, one turned his back for a second and the can of paint was stolen. Within minutes, it was used to tag building in the alley.

MOI feels that if parents had to pay damages for the graffiti, they might tell youths not to do.

I stumbled upon two kids tagging today and helped the police find them afterward. I know the police are more involved in the process now, but, i still don't know what the penalty is. I am guessing community service. Hopefully removing graffiti off walls.
