City Council Meeting - June 24, 2008
The snap above is of the City Council Chambers of Fresno and the tune is a bit of music to add flavour to the post today.
My dears, if you have never been to Council Chambers you are missing one of the best shows in town. The setting is sure to have you gasp and make you agog at the splendour of the place. Take about theatre! The stage is quite something(sorry, Chambers) and the lighting and sound is sure to make even the most horrid member of the City Council look good for the telly.
MOI went with Paul, my flatmate. Paul has never been to the place and even he was impressed.
The curtain goes up promptly at half 8. Yesterday, all members of the City Council were in place. Councilwoman Sterling had enough makeup on to have extra to paint the Sistine Chapel and as always her teeth were sparkling, Councilman Duncan looked a little worse for wear, Councilman Calhoun looked gruff and ready to do battle, and of course Councilman Perea look picture perfect, not a hair out of place and costumed perfectly(he really looks like a child being let to sit with the adults). Councilman Dages was there, looking as if he was trapped in a time warp as was the councilperson for District 4 and the councilperson serving as President.
The play moves right along, with certificates being given out to worthy folks in Fresno. All bring family members to capture the moment.
The part of the play that allows members of the public came quickly. MOI always knows what he is going to say. The manner and oder of delivery is dependent on how the mood of the audience is. One look at the piano keyboard teeth of Councilwoman Sterling and MOI knew it was not a good mood. MOI hit all of the points to be made. Lucky for MOI, as the President was not granting extra time and the bell went off just as MOI finished his delivery. There are no comments, Fresno does not allow for comments from Council members, unless it is requested by a councilperson, and Councilwoman Sterling was not about to let that happen.
Returning to sea was gobsmacked see Chief of Police Dyer sitting right in front of MOI. The Chief gave MOI a handshake. MOI did not go all gooey and wasted no time in tapping the poor man on arm to chat with. Told him of the heroic action of Sgt. Edwards(had a bike hurled at) and asked if the coppers were going to get pay raise. Chief Dyer was there for the 'Safe Neighborhood Act' as were other coppers. MOI even got to chat with commander of the Southwest Police District. Asked if the rumours were true about MOI leaving Central to come under Southwest. The Captain, ever the politician, told he was not privy to what the Chief of Police was going to do. The Captain also told me that he was not aware of the pay rise being given. Will have more to tell about Chief Dyer in upcoming post.
MOI tried to place a link on here for the Council Meeting but failed, will try to do soon. You have got to see and hear these folks in action. See Dwarf Calhoun and Dwarf Duncan hiss at one another. Hear Dwarf Calhoun belittle mentally challenged folks who ride the public transport. Hear Dwarf Sterling crow about housing in her District(she does not have a clue). Watch Dwarf Perea play with his pencils and stare at computer screen(checking voter trends?????).
Paul liked going so much, he wants to go more oft.
