The National Night out event is Tuesday August 5th 2008 from 5pm - 7pm. It will be held at the corner of San Pablo and Belmont. There will be information booths, music, and prizes. Hope to see you there and advise you neighbors. We are trying to get a face painter. The theme is Giving crime a going away party.
Received this from Officer Casarez on June 9th. Followed up with an email sent to Councilwoman Sterling;
Officer Casarez sent me this information, as he sent it to your office as well.
Use of 'discretionary funds' for this event would be a good thing. Officer Casarez seems to be rattling the can
in mentioning 'possible face painting'. One would hope that you picked up on that.
MOI will be there, and bring things to draw attention to getting more neighbors connected. Have things that will
be giving out to the folks to remind of the constant fight to do battle with the forces of evil.
Your NO vote to the 'Safe Neighborhood Act' has not gone unnoticed.
Reading the report of how you spend cash from the 'discretionary fund' one sees that you are
right generous with it to certain causes, but rather cheap when it comes to CRIME.
Calaveras and the neighborhood may not matter to you personally, but MOI will never let
you forget that you have a moral obligation to do your very best to support any effort
to improve the quality of life here.
Mark your diary! Help the coppers and the neighbors have a brilliant affair.

Which in turn got this reply from Chief of Staff;
Rob:
Councilmember Sterling is already a sponsor and supporter of this event in both the Central and Southwest Policing Districts as she has done in years past.
thanks
gb
Which got me to wonder;
What is the level of her sponsorship? What is she providing the event?
She gave $2,000.00 in past to Chicano Youth Centre, is she providing the same
level of support to an event that is for ALL members of the community and not just
a 'special interest group'?
Or is the use of 'public purse' a secret that one has to request through the
'freedom of information act'.
followed up with an email to Officer Casarez;
Officer Casarez,
Councilwoman Sterling's office tells me that the councilwoman is a sponsor of this event.
If it is not a secret, would like to know the level of her support of this event. Did the monies,
if there were indeed monies given, come out of the District 3 'discretionary fund'?

Followed by a very quick reply from Chief of Staff;
Rob:
Tony ask for $300.00 and will get that, not that secret. He also asked
for her to contact the a vendor that hasn't responded to him. Same for
the other Police District each which asked to cover the cost of
something they needed.

Which leads one to think that one has to be careful what you ask for from Councilwoman Sterling, as she is not apt to go all out. Mind, this is the same person who voted against the 'Safe Neighborhood Act'.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVeJwXUg98Q All MOI could think of for a tune was this one from the film Oliver. Fagin was what he was, sadly Councilwoman Sterling pretends to be one thing and is an entirely different person. She could teach Fagin a thing or two.
1 Comment(s) for "Councilwoman Sterling being a Sponsor?"
Shame.
This is why Council fools should not have any money too hand out.
They use it to reward supporters and denie those that disagree.
Its also time to remove the control of the Police budget and Fire budget from the council.
This way they immune from political tantrums of the council.
