I've always loved 45s or 7-inch records. As it was explained to me by none other than George Horn, mastering engineer at Fantasy Records, (http://www.fantasystudios.com/services.html) they're louder than a 33RPM because they spin faster. And some music sounds better on the smaller, noisier format. They used to be less expensive than the LP. Add to that, colored vinyl, picture discs, flexi-discs, shaped discs, etc. and you have something really fun. Here's a mixtape CD out of a box of 45s in my collection. Several different genres, the way I like it. I guess it's the songwriter in me that wants to hear a wide variety of styles at one listening session. From blues and R&B to early rock, classic rock, new wave and ultimately punk. Most of it is from the '50s to the '80s with a couple of exceptions.
