Nothing lasts, given a long enough timeline (I think that's from "Fight Club").
The philosophical part of me accepts the retirement of my friend and blogger buddy Mike Seay (aka The Fresnan) as simply a part of life, the changing of one season to the next. The rest of me ... not so much.
'Cause blogging ain't easy.
Anyone can fill up some Facebook feeds, or kick out some Tumblr posts, or pin some stuff (whatever than means), but actual blogging, the kind that Mike cut his teeth on, that's no easy task. Even the simplest post can take hours to research and write and get on line with the proper links and photos, and once it's out there, in cyber space, who knows if anyone ever sees it, much less reads it and if you get a comment back (from someone other than a troll) it is close to a miracle. It's a pretty thankless job and if (like Mike) you're doing it pro bono out of the goodness of your heart ... Well, it's not hard to see how someone could get burnt on that.
The philosophical part of me bares him no ill will.
I won't recount the history of blogging in Fresno, but The Fresnan was one of the first and his presence will be missed (as evidenced by the comments on his going-away post). A.) He hit a niche the rest of us typically overlook. B.) He spent time, so we didn't have to, so we could have a single post (Bandgeek for example) with all the info. All of it. C.) He did it well. That leaves a massive hole that I only hope in some way I can help fill.
Look for Famous' version of Bandgeek, coming soon.
In the mean time, give some love to your local bloggers, whether it's corporate (us, The Beehive) independent (The Full Moxie) or the really independent (This is Conlan), because after this, who knows if they will be here tomorrow?

it's funny, for the longest time i thought mikey worked at abc30 because of his picture in front of the abc30 truck.
Well done post, Famous. Nice to hear it from somebody that gets it. Blogging ain't easy. I spent many a tired tired night posting about stuff that it felt like only two people were reading. At times it was a bit insane to be honest.
But I loved doing it. Much more than my going away post even reveals. These past couple days have been much harder to deal with than I ever thought. Feels like I let myself down now (waaaaaa, blogger baby need's his bottle).
All the positive feedback from folks has felt nice though.
Looking forward to seeing what a Fresno Famous version of Bandgeek looks like!
Thank you, sir.
