She dances no more

I'm saddened. Whether you called her the "Tower Woman" or the "Palomino's Woman," that woman? I loved her. To me, she was offbeat and spiritual; I thought of her as a Universal goddess.

She was a positive force. She was colorful. She didn't have boogers or dead babies.  I always felt a good vibe when I saw her.

While I believe the owners weren't deliberately trying offend anyone by painting over the piece, I do feel it is a loss for the area. And I'm shocked. You'd think the money that it cost to paint the piece would have given the owners pause. The mural  was artwork. It had monetary and emotional value. Painting over it just screams "bad business choice."

And now that she's gone?

Sad.

The ad hominem attacks over at the Bee by folks hiding behind their anonymity can be quite upsetting. I wish the Bee could do something about that. At least when someone identifies themselves, you know who they are, who to avoid and whether or not the threat is serious.

I've kept out of this conversation on the other sites because I didn't want to wade through all of the ugly comments and stupid crap people were throwing around. I'm not sure the mistake was painting over the mural per se. The mistake was, like a lot of what happens in this town, the way it was done. It seems, the whole thing could have been easily avoided with a few phone calls. It raises some interesting questions about the longevity of murals as art. I believe that the Creative Fresno murals have a specific planned life span. Getting people talking about this stuff is good, I guess. I just hope the perceived hassle doesn't turn building owners (and muralists) from the work.

It was a mistake for them to paint over the art that had been there for several years. I often wondered who did the painting and now I know it was Joshua Wigger.
It was in a style reminiscent of a Fresno artist that I knew from years past by the name of Dale Enzenbacher. I actually thought, maybe he did it. It should be interesting to see what happens to the space now that this controversy has been raised. I assume the folks responsible continue to be in denial about it being anything other than just 'moving the furniture around'. Contrition on their part and a new mural by Mr. Wigger would make things all better.

Tom Walzem had a funny idea that would maybe satisfy the mural haters: http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/299753_2464293897389_1553...

(i still think Like Buttons would help.)
