This is actually the first article I'm contributing that is not being submitted as a honcho of the Rogue. Fact is... I'm no longer the honcho and the torch has been passed on. Though this article is somewhat Rogue related.
It's actually about the new. A new revamp of the Theatre J'Nerique site. The development of a new play. New ideas in marketing the Arts… though I'll save that for a separate future article.
The past month and a half has been quite a ride. I decided to create a new play to be premiered at the 2007 Rogue. Yeah, I have about 50 odd shows to my name and based on that assurance I figured it would take me 2 weeks tops to crank out this new one.
Wrong! It has been a month and a half and I'm still 10 pages away from a first draft.
The problem really began when I decided that I would steer away from the way I use to work. (Reason: I was bored and needed to inject a little excitement into my life.) I then decided to explore a genre that I hadn't attempted before. (Reason: I was bored and needed to inject a little excitement into my life.) Then I took all the pre-development I had created and threw it out the window. (Reason: I had totally lost my mind and wanted the characters to lead the play forward.)
So far, so good. The first half was cranked out in 3 days. Then, as is always the case, I became totally convinced that had no knowledge of what I am doing. Those 50 odd plays I had written before this were total flukes! I'm dyslexic, I'm color-blind, and I can't put a cogent sentence together to save my life!
And so began the adventure of this play. The one thing I never threw out was putting my big foot into my big mouth. Now I have to deliver the goods! (Been that way all my life.) And yes… I'm doing it here. This project has been chronicled somewhat on my blog. ( http://sinun.blogspot.com) but the period from this point on will be housed at http://theatrejnerique.com
This "Page to Stage" process will encompass blog entries as well as video involving all concerned in it. So come on and feel free to interact with us as we move this thing along. If for nothing else… to derive some kind of perverse pleasure from watching me slowing twirling on a breezeless day.
Oh yeah, we just posted our first video too!
