The way Sidewalk Prophets come through Fresno, we should think about claiming them as our own. The five-piece Christian rock band has played Fresno twice this year (with the Rock and Worship Roadshow in March and the WinterJam tour in November) and will be back on Sunday at the Warnor's Theatre for KLove's Acoustic Christmas Tour with Sanctus Real and Dara Maclean.
And those shows are always exciting, says singer Dave Frey. There was a reason both tours chose Fresno as their final dates, he says.
"People there are hungry to worship."
Which can an overwhelming feeling. Sure, playing music like this is a dream that Frey has had since he was a kid. But hearing the stories from his fans, from the lives that have been changed by this music ... "That's what makes this more than a career, more than a job," he says.
The Acoustic Tour, though, is a change of pace from the big rock-arena shows (and a quick one, the band will be heading for the East Coast leg of the Winter Jam tour in Janurary). In a way it's a return to his roots, Frey says, to the days when he and guitarist Ben McDonald played songs in coffee houses or out on the streets. This is a laid-back kind of concert, a family-and-friends Christmas sing-along kind of thing, where the band's sort of intermingle their sets, he says.
