With the new year approaching, there are many people who will be looking to make new year's resolutions. Of those resolutions, "lose weight" is going to represent a lot of them as it nearly always has. This is good and bad at the same time. It is good there is a desire to lose weight, which will help prevent several diseases, and increase the overall quality of life for the person. The bad part is the resolution itself almost infers a short time frame for this. A key idea i'd like to introduce is to not look short term, but rather long term. Instead of "dieting" to lose some weight before returning to old habits, work towards eating healthier on a daily basis and developing that lifestyle over time. There are several places around town that can provide help as necessary, if you feel that may be the best way to get started. When looking for a program, avoid the medications, and quick fixes. Look for a sound program that help you create a healthier you. Some parting words.. working towards weight loss goals is not easy, but effort and time put forward in an effective way always produces results! - MA, CSCS
