Another great big shopping area

Last night the Fresno City Council approved the Environmental Impact Report for the El Paseo project. In case you haven't heard previously, the proposed shopping area will cover some 238 acres west of 99 on Herndon.

If you don't have a mental image of what that looks like, think River Park, only westside.

Looking around this town, noting the fairly huge number of nearly empty strip malls, I wonder if this is a good idea. Do we need another massive shopping complex when so many strip centers are languishing?

Thoughts, anyone?

No we really don't need this at all. Look at all the empty units at Herndon/Milburn and at Herndon/Spruce.
I live in the general area of El Paseo and I'm not happy about it being approved.
Ten years ago one of the deciding factors when we purchased our home, was the fact that is was away from the shopping areas. The area was mainly fields with very few homes. We loved being on the very edge of town, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
We had no idea that the city would allow multiple subdivisions, an apartment complex, two schools, and the two shopping centers at Herndon/Milburn. With all this came increase air pollution, increased crime and decreased property values.
The direct area of this shopping center has been hit extremely hard with foreclosures. It is killing everyone else's property values. The house across the street from me is currently for sell for less than I paid for mine 10 years ago. I have a feeling once this mall gets built, my property value will drop even more.
