BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW and LUNCHBOX play The Cellar Door!!!
Over the past few months Rolling Stone, The New York Times, and MTV (among many others) have been raving about the new Black Moth Super Rainbow album "Dandelion Gum". BMSR are currently on tour opening for The Flaming Lips and the night after that tour ends they stop in Visalia to play The Cellar Door! The night after their Visalia stop they are back on another monster tour w/ Aesop Rock.
Rural Western, Pennsylvania's Black Moth Super Rainbow consists of five band members: Tobacco (voice/production), Power Pill Fist (bass), Father Hummingbird (rhodes and monosynth), The Seven Fields Of Aphelion (monosynth), and Iffernaut (drums).
New York Times: Black Moth Super Rainbow, a band from Pennsylvania, makes its music from a nest of analog keyboards and a rhythm section. Its songs are pulsating neo-psychedelia, driving and dizzying, with vamps that keep on building as the keyboard sounds go whizzing, bubbling, zapping and swooping above the beat. Vocals are run through a vocoder for a vintage robotic tone, repeating lines like "I love to be with you, and this time we'll rise" or "We miss you in the summertime." Above the band, a screen showed eye-popping video animations: wildly proliferating plants, cartoon people and food in metamorphosis. The band's albums revolve around stories and concepts--its current one, "Dandelion Gum," is a tale of witches in a forest--but onstage, its music was one glorious buzz.
BMSR also tours with a cool visual screen projector show!
Opening the evening are Visalia's own experimental-funk-jazz rockers Lunchbox!
