Fresno's Next Mayor or Does Anyone Care?
Submitted by MakeFresnoGreat on Mon, 02/18/2008 - 13:06.
There hasn't been too much publicity about the Fresno mayor's race. I think this is largely because the spotlight is on the presidential race (and hopefully not a lack of interest). Nevertheless, the candidates have all started their campaigning in earnest and despite the lack of media coverage, they are out in full swing.

MindHub
Jim: check out the daily listserve MindHub. Lots of good discussion and events being talked about. http://www.mindhub.org/
You are right Pido.
Things got way out of control and beleive it or not, it means a lot for you to write what you did. I stand corrected by the way.
It is all over and I am going to continue what I do, but I am going to take your advice and simply get on more blogs to listen to and talk to more interesting people, including you;)
Thank you and I also apologize for my comments.
Someday, we will hopefully have a true community with real leaders and I hope we are all part of it.
Until then, I wish you the best and we will all keep trying our best to make Fresno great.
Thanks again.
Jim
Okay, Jim.
This has gone on long enough. You felt/feel attacked, and for the contributions to that feeling that I've written or said I apologize, though I should point out that much of the comments you are criticizing (like the tie or the award verification) weren't posted by me. Nonetheless, I apologize to you for any comments that I made that were hurtful, or anything but truth-provoking. I let you get under my skin, so for that I apologize the rest of this community.
Honestly, I only hoped to engage greater political discussion and interest in our leaders, and looked online for my information (I guess that's a generational issue). I set up profiles at futureoffresno.com so that I could compare candidates, based on what I found (or didn't, in some cases). Then, I turned to existing networks, Famous in particular, for discussion. I attended the forums—perhaps one or two too many.
I don't direct this at you, but I'm fairly convinced that one of the reasons for low voter turnout was the overwhelming list of names on the ballot, many of which probably should not have been there (I'm not saying which ones, but not every candidate was/is qualified).
Regarding turnout, I do want to correct you on one fact: 200,000 people did not register, and more than 20,000 showed up. In fact, more than 20,000 voted for Perea and Swearengin, and the total votes cast for mayor was over 37,000, out of about 185,000 registered voters. Why bother with such a detail? Well, because your numbers imply a 10% participation rate in the runoff decision, but the total was actually 20.36%; still not a great turnout, but I believe that's a significant difference. The full results below are copied and pasted from the County Registrar (and can be found here):
Again, Jim, I apologize for any hurtful negativity towards you or other candidates that I've expressed. I am entitled to my opinions, and to their expression, but I never intended to do more than positively engage in this election process.
Now, as for your participation in other discussions, why don't you post, on here—and for comment—some of your plans? Or tell us about your favorite place to eat in Fresno? Or start a new post and share some of the positive things you've learned during this process? I'll take my own advice, and post a recap of last night's Men Who Cook fundraiser.
Again, I wish you well.
Give it a rest...finally
Give it a rest then if you don't then if you think my comments are lacking. You, nor did a few others have an intelligent discussion. You attacked people you didn't even take then time to find out about. I saw person after person basjing candidates for rificulous reasons that had nothing to do with qualifications. That is why we only had a few show to vote and eneded up with more of the same to choose from for mayor. My communication styles are not lacking, I just don't send the same old, "thank you for your commetns" polotical rheteroric and kiss ass when someone doubts what one person says while blindly believeing another. And, the only reason I didn't raise as much money is because I refused to take special interest and corruption money. Excuse me for being an hinest person. If you, or anyone for that matter, believes that Perea or Swearengin raised all of that money because they are popular and well liked, you better do some more of your wonderful fact checking. Fresno will be stuck for another four years of a corrupt politician who will do nothing for the people, but will work for their special interest friends. The people should have woke up, but instead made rude comments, not intelligent questions about candidates and I am the only one who wasn't going to sit back and let people simply call me a liar or make false statements without challenging them, even if the challenges were strong. So, stop listening, (and responding) to my whining because I refuse to sit back and watch people simply make false statements about me when they never took any opportunity to find out the truth, that is still out there. I put myself on the ballot because I was tired of watching the people, including me, suffer under the criminal element we have called our mayor and our council for years, more than I can say for most who sit behind the guides of a screen name and bash good and descent people, and I actually had real plans for a better future for the citizens of our community. But you would rather get into petty squabbles about how someone ties a tie, spend quality time on verifying an award that could have been asked to see. No, instead, the people here either sit back, don't vote or they pretend they are actually involved by personally attacking people. This is a behavior that wouldn't be tolerated by two people out in a store, so why do you think it is acceptable to put people down simply because they are running for office, especially if one is running to make things better? I only read the constant, unfounded rantings of people who don't want change but who want a reason to disagree with everything and everyone. I didn't "approach" anyone at this site. I answered to slanderous and unfounded remarks.
When we have a city with almost a half a million people, only less than 200,00 registered to vote and only 20,000 who voted, it is the caliber of corrupt politician and the people who make themselves feel better by putting others down who are the problems.
Why don't I "engage" on any other issue? Because I could give a shit about something so ridiculous as to how a candidate ties his tie, garlic fries or the over priced stadium that the people purchased and how we still haven't been paid back for that yet. I would rather comment about how he is in bed with corrupt people and how he/she will ruin what little is left of my hometown or how our freedoms are being taken away and people are being abused while you sit back and defend your rude comments about someone you obviously know nothing about.
Do something about the problems we have here or get out of the way so those of us who truly do care about our future can do something.
Jim, I never attacked you, and (if this actually you I'm replying to) your response is uncalled for. You engaged the Famous community, and I (along with others) challenged you. Several times. Again, if this is how you respond to comments that are less than favorable, you shouldn't have put your name on the ballot, and you shouldn't have wasted the little money you were able to raise.
Your communication styles are lacking, and I'm not the one to blame for that. Nor am I the one to listen to your frustrations.
Go back to your "accomplishments." I wish you well at them. No need to waste time with whining to someone like me, who quite likes the hobbies he's found.
Oh, and when did I post as an alias? I'm not afraid to own up to my comments, and I don't need to post under someone else's name to affirm my thoughts. If you think I'm putting someone down, call me out on it (hint: that would mean commenting on posts that aren't about you).
Good luck to you.
Why keep on with the negativaty
Gee Pido. You got your way. I didn't win. I am glad that Ashley is in the top two so we have someone who may or may not absolutely destroy our city, but for a person who is constantly telling people to register under their name and then who continues to use an alias, I have to wonder why you feel you must continue to kick a person while they are down. I didn't boast, I told the truth. I humbly asked for the people to listen and to vote. Twist and turn the words as you must, but when this is all said and done, you will be one of the many who are still complaining while others are saying, "I told you so". You are obviously a person who must find something to complain about whether it is true or not.
I did find it odd that whether or not I won an award, which was proven that I did, was questioned, yet nothing Perea or Swearengin says has been proven at all. They will make great politicians. I was running to be a public servant, not a politician.
All I was saying is that if there was clarification needed during the election, I would make sure to register so people would know when it was me. You consistantly put people down on this site and that is not being anything even close to a community member. Neither were the candidates who either bought their way into office or who are the epitome of special interests. These are the types of candidates who break the laws, do what they want and continue the cycle of using the people to get ahead as opposed to creating a community who could have been one and made real differences. There was nothing I said about my opponents that wasn't true, nor was I trying to boast about myself. I simply let the people know what I could actually accomplish if mayor. I didn't pad my resume and lie to the people like some of my opponents who have a track record of doing nothing for the people.
Like I said, it is over and I will keep on track with what I am actually accomplishing and you will obviously continue your ridiculous comments and behavior. Man, find another hobby instead of simply putting others down constantly without even knowing the facts. You believe those whom have told untruths and you have questioned every person who has stated facts. It is obvious that your goal is to be as unpleasant as you can to every person you can. There is no sense of community in your behavior.
I sincerely jope that one day you will realize that your cruelty and mean spirit is not what creates a community. And yes, I fully expect you to say, blah, blah, blah because you are always right. This type of site isn't for information. It is for people like you to bash others while you do nothing to make our community better.
story?
actually, orangebear,
the only "real story" i know is that henry t. perea is a married man. this is what the man himself says, so why should i believe otherwise? your internet rumors or your alleged sources? borderline libel.
as for your repeated accusations that he is a closeted gay man, they annoy me and i'm sure i'm not the only one. they border on homophobic and frankly have little or no place in the discussion of perea's merits for mayor.
if you like, continue to rant on. but please, feel free to go into your account and start using your real name. although i post under a nom de plume, i'm easily identified by who i really am. and, i post here enough about the places i go, so i'm easy enough to find offline. why don't you step up to the plate, since you enjoy your baseball games so, and stop hiding behind a moniker. give your accussations some weight. or go and talk to mr. perea yourself and question his sexuality.
Leave "West Hollywood" alone!
T-boi has enough issues.
He takes West Hollywood money but claims he doesnt support their gay agenda.
Yet we know the real story.
Shhh It's a secret!
Atleast Fresno will have a real woman as Mayor soon.
Not a Carmen Miranda wanna be.
Maybe I should have lunch at Cuca's today.
She, I mean its in the "Tower District".
Jr., er Henry TEE
I can't vote for a guy who is incapable of tying his tie. Seriously, how can you run a city if you can't even tie a four-in-hand or a half-windsor?
She is Back! Welcome Home Marla
Enlighten the nay sayers.
Can they really control a gay man pretending to be straight for political purposes?
Would knowlege of a closeted drag queen really give them control of the City water?
water meter
All part of the cover-up - FRESNO'S WATER IS BEING RE-ROUTED. Broken laws and massive destruction. This is why there are no older records on file - current ones entail ALTERED plat/parcel maps! This also explains the clamped sewer/water lines on all properties. But you won't find permits on file for it - that is how these structures continue beind sold as "original" to unsuspecting buyers.
MASSIVE COVER-UP!
Sewer Meters
The sewer meters are only for commercial/industrial buildings not for residents.
I believe once the water meters are paid for the fee will stop. Most new houses already have water meters so it will be the older houses that will have to pay for installation.
Clovis uses much less water then Fresno due to the fact that they have water meters and people being people will waste less when they have to pay for it themselves.
Re: Meters, Liqour stores, Dages, and Perea Jr.
$10,000 that's enough to curl a bears fur.
Hope the meter don't cost that much but do have problem with being billed on normal payments. Would payments end after a certain time or continue forever? Will it be like the trash cans where you payed a monthly fee for the can cost besides the pickup fee. Thats how it started and the city still charges the fee. How long does it take to pay for a trash can?
If they estimate sewage use based on water use its unfair. Your paying for washing your car, watering your lawn, water for your dog ect... Not everyone wastes water. Some of us are responsible and actually recycle. Who makes up this estimated number and is it a set number used for everyone or does somebodys cousins friend that needed a city job and benifts sit around making up numbers all day?
ABC controls the liquor. But the code enforcement "City Hall" is suppose to control the illegal car washes, the smell from the rotting meat in the trash, the illegal food sellers outside ,the condition of the buildings. If Dages lived next to the liquor store you know Code Enforcement would be all over it for every little thing they could find. Everyone knows Dages is just more of the same and he leeches on to what others do.
Like the old junk yard that was replaced by brand new sub prime loan houses for low income uncivilized types. The back yards are now garden jungles where pigs, chickens and who knows what roam growling (and mooing?). While the welfare familys teenage thugs drag the street in fully loaded mini race cars. They dont work how do they afford the cars? Gangs, drugs and prostitution. Now the homes are slowly heading into forclosure. That $550 house payment is now $1,800 amonth.
But Dages turned a vacant lot a few blocks long that was a blight into housing and beautified the area. What are Mini animal filled jungles, drugs, gangs, and prostitutes? It was better as vacant land.
But obviously some developer had Dages in his pocket. Soon it will be vacant houses that are all torn up and trashed. 3 of the house were never built.
As for the Soccer Park druggies shopping cart cardboard box encampment. Dages assistant said it was Parks and Recreations job to clean it up. The witch at Parks and Recreation said they can't chase them out. But they can threaten to ticket a woman who's dog went on the lawn? She said it's a public park they have the right to be there. They have the right to shoot up and throw their needles where the kids play? Funny how soon as I told her Channel 47 was coming with a news crew she had a city work crew out there chasing them away and cleaning the park. Mike Dages is another one that just wants to be a lifetime politition.
As for Perea Jr, if he wants to "miss" lead the voter thats his choice. But everyone can see thru the masquerade. This bear only like real fish and can spot the fake fish. Had a good laugh with a former "Court Empress" about the issue over garlic fries at the stadum this week. Before you go jumping to conclusions this bear don't eat "Doves" either. The only "woofing" this bear does is garlic fries. It's interesting who you run into everynight sitting behind home plate. Where was everyone last night? Very low turn out at the Grizzlies. No love for the home team?
"I am very humbly asking you to help me change that cycle and make Fresno better for everyone."
Jim, the boasts you make about yourself and your attitude toward the other candidates are far less than humble.
As for registering on here if you make into the runoff, I'm glad to see that you're only interested in engaging in dialog while seeking an elected role. We certainly don't want community members participating on here who aren't seeking to better position themselves.
Thanks for the warnings—I'll be sure to vote for my "gut feeling" today.
Wake Up Orangebear
It is really to bad that orangebear is out of touch with the rest of us and doesn't know the process of local government. First, liquor stores are regulated by the ABC Alcohol Beverage Control. As far as the gang issue, maybe you should look at where the gangs and located. They are throughout our city and not just in Dages's district. It sounds like to me you have a personal grind with Dages and you are blaming him for everything. Have you seen Henry Jr.'s district or do you have blinders on. While you are at it, why don't you just blame Dages for all our smog, heart disease and the West Nile Virus?
Wake up Orangebear. Thanks for helping me decide who to vote for today. Mike Dages for Mayor!
Thank you
I would like to say thank you for your understanding and I am also glad to hear that your curiosity has been satisfied. Good for you to take the time to research things.
Yes, this is Jim Boswell, the candidate for mayor. I am not sure how to prove it, but if I am elected or voted into the top two, I will register and keep on top of this.
I hope you will be able to tell it is actually me by what I am about to say.
1) I appreciate your comments, suggestions and I am always the first one to say, as I have for months, that I don't have all of the answers, (most of them:), but not all and I am always willing to listen to the people.
2) I realize that this is very much like a horse race. That is to say, that if you are betting on a horse who is considered the favorite and he/she wins, you get your money back, but after you buy your beer or soda and nachos you go home a loser. However, if you bet on the supposed longshot, who looks just as good, but has never run a race and he wins, you go home a winner and buy a new home.
What I am saying is that I know I am considered the longshot, but if you will take the chance and bet, or vote for me, I can assure you that you will all go home winners. I won't ever take the people or my position as mayor for granted and I will consistantly come through for every single one of our people and having you constantly saying, "well I'll be, Jim did it again for us!"
I realize that I am asking a lot, but we all know that my opponents are bought and paid for. We all know my council member opponents have had eight years and we are essentially at the same spot, if not worse off than we were. We have a wealthy person who is endorsed and backed by the very same special interests who are backing the council members. These special interests are buying the race so no matter which one of these "favorites" wins, you lose. Don't "wish you had listened to and voted for Jim Boswell after it is too late. I am asking you to give me the opportunity to prove to you that not only will I not work for special interests, but I can absolutely assure you that if you trust you gut feelings and elect Jim Boswell, I will not let you down, I will exceed your expectations and I will complete my goals of dramatically improving the quality of life for every person in our city.
Yes, I realize this is a lot to ask, but I want you to seriously think about how we know for a fact that if elected, any one of my opponents will run Fresno and our people so far into the ground that there may be no coming back.
I can accomplish my goals in my first term. I can improve the quality of your life in my first term. I will listen to the people and together, we can make Fresno an unstoppable community who can hold our heads high knowing that at the end of the day, we all went home winners.
I ask you to stop the cycle of electing the same old politicians who have proven that they can not serve the public. I am very humbly asking you to help me change that cycle and make Fresno better for everyone. If you bet on them, you go home, (after the soda and nachos) losing. If you bet on Jim Boswell, you will go home winners and stay winners.
The system has been broken by the very same people who are giving us the very same false promises they have spouted for years. It is time to stand up for the little guy, get out and vote for Jim Boswell for mayor and allow me the opportunity to serve the people and get the job done. And yes, I will get the job done.
Again, thank you for your time, your advice and hopefully for allowing me by the end of Tuesday, to work for you, the people of our great city.
Jim Boswell (The real one:)
re water meters
The law (AB 2572) passed in 2004. You're about four years late to the party...
http://info.sen.ca.gov/pub/03-04/bill/asm/ab_2551-2600/ab_2572_bill_2004...
The law is codified at Water Code section 527
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=wat&group=00001-01...
$1500-2000 for Water Meters
My sister works for the city and she says depending on the size of the pipe it will cost between $1500-2000 to install a water meter to a home. She says there is no plans for a sewer meter except for commercial and industrial buildings. She says there is no actual sewer meter but it is calculated by how much is the water usage.
The water meter will not be paid up front but added monthly to the water bill in installments.
meter
doug,
can you post a link to where you're getting your information? i mean, i haven't heard anything on the issue of water meters lately, but maybe i've just missed it.
But Perea Jr. wants Sewer meters too. $10,000
I have not seen any state law about sewer meters?
Isn't this double taxation?
How will normal home owners pay $10,000 for the 2 meters?
We don't get City paid living expesnses like Perea Jr.
Will you have to pay $10,000 cash upfront?
Will the City bill you on your regular bill plus intrest until the meters are paid off?
Will you be forced to sign a payment contract giving the City a lien on your home until it's paid?
Will the City use the liens as collateral that can be traded or sold?
Imagine hundreds of thousands of liens each worth $10,000 held by the City of Fresno.
Can you afford to pay $10,000 right now?
Who's really behind this plan?
Jefferson Award for Public Service
I got a call back from Jamie at the Jefferson Award center. Mr. Boswell did win the award and was in Washington DC to receive it. He was one of many local level winners (that is, there are many winners nationally, but just one at the "local level," depending on the award program), and was elected via a panel at KGPE.
That was my stumbling point--I thought there was just one "Jefferson Award for Public Service" per year, but it seems as though there are many (Jamie could not provide me with numbers). I have additional contact info at KGPE if anyone's interested, but my curiosity has been satisfied at this point.
1) Adarga, you're my hero.
1) Adarga, you're my hero. Please report back the response to your call.
2) Jim, I blame Sue Hansen. The tone of the comments was oddly familiar. I might suggest actually registering on the site, which will allow you to post from a consistent user name (if this is really you I'm replying to). Oh what I'd pay for access to the log of IP addresses that have posted as you or in support of you...
3) Doug, most new homes (if not all) are coming with meters, and tieing those to accounts with City utilities is inevitable. We waste water, and we'll eventually have to be held accountable. I can't ding Perea for wanting us to be responsible citizens.
4) Steve, I just threw up a little. I empathize with Doug's comments, and as a resident of Dages' district, could add several others.
Re: water meters
I'm not voting for Jr., but its a state law that everyone has to be on a meter by 2025. The fact that we have to do it retroactively is evidence of the impotent leadership we have at City Hall. They should've forced developers to do it long ago. It would've been cheaper. But now we get to pay for the mistakes city hall allowed to happen for a few grand in campaign contributions.
To Mr. Boswell
Mr. Boswell,
There's a lot of uncertainty regarding the comments on this thread. In fact, I don't even know if I'm in fact replying to mayoral candidate Jim Boswell right now or not. So this is for said candidate:
I have a call into the Jefferson Award organization regarding clarification. I have not heard back, but tend to believe that there are 5 big awards each year, and then perhaps a couple hundred awards that go to people who've done work on a local level, that don't get listed on the site. At this late date in the campaign, I'd have to give you the benefit of (my) doubt.
I'll be honest: I don't think you're going to win this time around. It would have helped your campaign out tremendously if you could focus your web presence on your main campaign website, and eliminate all the others. For example, on jimboswellformayor.com, you state your light pole plan will save Fresno $3 million annually. But on http://creating.lateupdate.com/index.php?n=Main.JimBoswell
the claim is an unbelievable $36 million annually every year. I personally don't believe that you intended this second site to represent yourself, but it is out there and if someone runs across it, it looks inconsistent. I'd like to be able to go to one campaign site to get the straight truth as opposed to goign out to a mySpace page or wherever else to piece it all together.
Now maybe you have a lot of well intentioned supporters who are shooting you in the foot by misrepresenting you on the web (like in this very thread or multiple websites), or for all I know they're agents of one of your competitors, since their posts do you more harm than good. I don't know how to completely eliminate this kind of thing, but I'd suggest that next time you get someone who is very web savvy and can purge this junk out. One idea would be to register on sites like this and make sure someone in charge knows that it's you and who can verify for all of us that your account is really yours and when you state something it's coming from you and not someone else.
In this day and age, those running for office need to have above average web savvy, or at least someone on their team who does. TV and print media are becoming less and less relevant across the board, and I don't see that trend reversing itself any time soon. I think you have good ideas and if you don't win this time around, I hope you will refine your strategy and take another shot next time. Having more strong candidates in a race benefits everyone.
Wasn't me posting
To Pido, Adarga and Edluv,
The recent post(s) were not from me.
I am Jim Boswell, the mayoral candidate.
I have recently, (within the last week) found out through two other sites that a person has posted a couple of statements that were not from me.
First, I apologize for not catching it before but to be honest, I am not familiar with the hacking of computers or maybe someone can just post what they want by whom they want to post as.
My mailing address is 6083 N. Figarden Dr. Fresno, CA 93722. If I post anything, I will put in something like this in order to hopefully let people know it is or is not really me.
I have not been at my computer for the last few days due to walking door to door, at least as much as I can with a broken hip.
I have developed plans for Fresno that will improve our quality of life, but those plans are all over in my videos and on my website. I have spoken to a few people, a couple of t.v. and radio stations about my motor, not an engine and I always describe it in full. I also ask for people to ask questions. That is the only way I can find out what the people want to know.
Anyway, I am truly sorry for the confusion and as for what I would call, rude comments, anyone who knows me knows that I will stand up for myself, but getting rude about it isn't going to get us anywhere and it certainly won't answer questions. If you have questions, you can contact me through www.jimboswellformayor.com or www.nextfresnomayor.com or just contact me through my email jboswell@comcast.net
I have actually posted a couple of times quite some time ago on Fresno Famous and I have said that I like this site because there is a lot of information and I get to find out how the people feel about different issues. I also post when there are questions I see, but not about comments made too often because everyone has their opinion and even if I don't agree with it, it is still their opinion.
Thank you for the report on the forum. I was skipped quite a bit due to running over our time, but at least I was able to answer a few questions, the moderator caught the others on some promises they have made and quite honestly, I don't believe that they can come through on. After all, these are the same promises we have heard for years.
So, I hope everyone at least received the message that I do have easily obtainable plans that will benefit the people and I decided to run for office in the first place because I have become frustrated with the people being forgotten and ignored. I would hardly be doing the right thing by becoming one of them.
Again, I apologize for the jack%#$ who is posting as me, but if you want questions answered, please contact me or if I do post on here, I will begin with a little known fact to somehow try to verify it is me. I am also having someone look at my computer this week so they can clear out anything that this person has done.
Thanks,
Jim
I Don't Think Perea Had a Choice
I think Fresno had to accept meters due to pressure from state and federal government. Plus it makes sense to have meters in a desert. We should have had long time ago. Clovis has meters and their residents use appreciatively less water as a result.
http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BYL/is_8_20/ai_n25114926
$10,000 in City mandated improvents coming to your home.
Thats right!
Lil Perea Jr. wants all houses to install water and sewer meters. The home owner will pay the cost of installing and maintaining them.
Go ahead vote for Jr. and be prepared to pay for it and pay twice every time you flush.
I say its time to flush Jr.
Elect Mike Dages Mayor? Might as well Elect John Welty
Both are old, bitter, arrogant and still living in 1940s/50s Fresno.
Dages is out of touch with his district.
Tough on gangs? Look at 2nd,3rd,4th, and 5th street between Butler and California. Look at the Ranchwood and Winery apartments. Look at all the street vagrants and druggies shooting up and drinking in the Soccer Park behind Food Max. More after school programs? Fresno had great afterschool programs until they eliminated them and brought in Roy Mendiola and Fresno CORAL. Funny how Fresno CORAL got kicked out of every school they were let into to. When the funding ran out they disapeared fast.
Dages works for the community? He can't even clean up the liqour stores in his neighborhood where the drunks and druggies hang out all day. He can't even get the crosswalks repainted so the school children can safly cross the streets. Has Dages ever walked from his house to City Hall to see what his district is really like?
All Dages represents is more of the same.
Who to elect?
I can help you Max. The only two candidates qualified to run this city are Boyajian and Dages. Gangs, bad air, drugs, and unemployment are all issues that our city has been facing for along time. Yes we need more officers on our Police force. No we do not want our taxes raised to pay for it. We need more after school programs to keep kids out of gangs and off drugs. I think we need someone who can deal with our economy and brighten the future of fresno. I listened to all of the candidates last night and the only one that answered all of the questions was Dages. All of the other candidates talked alot but didn't say anything. Dages has a great track record for working hard in the community. I think all of you should take a real look at all the candidates. I Have and if you ask me the choice is very easy:
DAGES FOR MAYOR!!
max powers
recap of the mayoral forum here.
and max, i love you nom de plum, so very homer.
A gay dwarf pretending he is straight? Really?
Come on people it's not like he is the only one currently there. Fresno City Hall's history has been filled with closeted council members and incidents of a bisexual former mayor with his drugs and hookers. It's not like they were out driving drunk and got a free ride home from PD instead of going to jail like normal people. They are carear polititions. It's what they do. They lie to and decieve the voters. Your talking about members and familys of the "Good Old Boys" network.
Look how they scrammbled to cover up and railroad Max Franc after (Terry?) Adams killed Tracey Nutte. But then Adams didn't exisit according to the DA's Office. Max Franc was the real killer. Max Franc that was running a Barney Frank type operation of male athletes for sex/money with major gay/closeted donors of a major educational institution. More of the "Good Old Boys". In direct violation of NCAA rules.
These people seem to all think they are above the Law.
It's not just the City Hall Dwarves. You have County Dwarves,Unified, College and University Dwarves. Arrogant old men and women that all think they are above the Law. Nobody better challenge them or else!
No matter how you vote they are going to get what they want and cover each other up. They all use each other and the publics tax money for their own intrest. The stuff we read in the Fresno Bee about the dwarves is nothing compared to what really goes on.
Fresno Mayor
Did anyone see the debate last night? I thought it was pretty good considering you have so many candidates. What I really liked is the way the candidates that have been making promises were challanged on how they were going to pay for it, especially Perea. I am tired of the promise after promise and no substance behind it. Maybe he could spend some of his special interest money to help pay for his promises. Also, Ashley must be coached by Autry, say nothing but make it sound good. I liked Boyajian's compassion for this city, Dages' experience and proof of results, and Boswell's common guy approach. I am still not sure who to vote for. Can anyone help me?
Great Forum
I thought tonight's forum was the best I had seen this campaign. Mark Keppler did a great job with the questions. He made several of them answer the question again if they avoided it or took a different tack then was implied in the question. Some questions were asked by pre-taped viewers as well as those compiled by Ch.24
All eleven candidates were present.
It Will the Last One Until There Are Two
It will be the last forum with as many as eleven candidates present. The next forum will be when the field has been winnowed down to two. That will make it easier to get real information and longer answers to the questions.
Thanks for the heads up Andy, we'll be watching. Ch. 24 Should have better sound quality than the Mayoral forum they had at FCC that was rebroadcast on Comcast. I hope Barbara Hunt, Jim Boswell and Ignacio Garrabay are there tonight.
Mayoral Candidate Forum Tonight
There will be a Mayoral Candidate forum tonight on Ch. 24 at 7pm for those interested/undecided.
not that it matters
Jim,
since you've said my post was ridiculous, could you explain which part met that criteria? Was it the part about early motor vehicles running on alternative sources? was it the part where i asked if you created a perpetual motion machine? or was it the part that said that it couldn't run off of any fuel?
because if it was the last part, you're a bigger fool than you've already seemed. even if it is running off of
as for this,"Again, if you are a paid staffer of Perea's or anyone else's, just let it go. You don't know what you are talking about and your questionable tactics make no sense," i've already said that i wasn't even sure who i was voting for. i would hope that none of the candidates would employ someone that's not voting for them.
as for not knowing what i'm talking about, well, it's true, i only do have a rudimentary understanding of these things. but, unless you can prove how you're contradicting the laws of thermodynamics, i don't see how i'm wrong. again, if you had created this automobile engine that seems to be a perpetual motion machine, i am quite sure that it would be on the news. it would be in science magazines. your magic machine would be somewhere verifiable, not just on fresno famous. not to insult, ff, but this isn't exactly the cutting edge of the scientific world right here.
everything takes fuel. fuel is anything that is anything that is burnt or altered to create energy. so, if you're alter radio waves, happy thoughts, whatever, it is fuel, by definition. if you've followed in tesla's footsteps, you're still using a fuel. that is, unless you've found a way to create energy ex nihilio. which again, you should be able to document somewhere, somehow other than just saying, "i did it," and saying my questions are ridiculous.
Even though I'm a Boyajian supporter, I think Henry T. has an ability to verbalize the way to get to the future in the most clear terms. And to be able to get the support of BOTH Labor and The Chamber is quite rare...kind of like Obama, stradling several, different widely varrying
interests.
In the Dages mailer that came the other day, it has picture of Dages pointing to a large bank of solar panels and it says, "I want to make Fresno the Solar capital of the world." This is something I support.
The longer we wait to solarize our communities it's more money lost to a dying fuel source.
Henry T.
I would think Henry T. has the bigger future on the state level then his father does. I do hate it when people call him Jr. since he isn't one as the middle initials are different. Dages sure played up the "Junior" part on his tv ads to try and demonstrate how young Henry T. is . It made Dages look old and petty in my opinion.
"It seems they are attempting to imply that he is gay."
It's an old issue and most people knew anyway. I think it should matter to everyone voting. The reason it should matter is becaue it shows he can't be trusted to tell the truth. He is a typical politition that will say what he has to to be elected. He comes out in support of gay marriage then denies supporting it. He denies who he is to the public. Just so he can be elected and because Daddy Perea is against gay marriage and issuing marriage licenses. Can't do anything to embaress Big Macho Daddy Perea or hurt daddy's future political ambitions. If dad runs for a State office and speaks out against gays that makes him a hypocrite. The gay liberal press would chew Daddy Perea and Jr up. Why do you think Jr got "married" and don't like being compared to Brian Setenchich?
It's all about politics and decieving the voters.
C'mon, Jim
Really? This is how you communicate? This is your tone when standing up for yourself?
Quote: "Being a ignorant, venomous and flat out hateful person does not make you or your candidate look very good."
Hmm...neither does being pompous, rude and just plain divisive.
Instead of taking the opportunity to respectfully defend your ideas/talent/ability, you've let a few well-intending words get below the skin; based on your response, I can't imagine how you'd deal with all of the personal attacks that any mayor will face (Autry was criticized fairly heavily in today's digest of MindHub).
I'm like Adarga, and part of a generation that looks up anything in question on Google. Instead of putting him or anyone down, provide direct links to information. Or send a personal message offering to send info via snail mail.
I said it earlier and I'm saying it again: the position of mayor requires, among many other things, the ability to lead. And leadership isn't just casting a vision or charting a path—it requires convincing others to buy into that vision and to follow you down that path. Good luck with your race. If this is how you approach leadership, I believe you'll need it.
(SIDE NOTE: I really have tried to stay neutral throughout the campaigning process, even setting up futureoffresno initially to compare candidates. I don't write this comment as a personal attack, but I do encourage you to consider your audience when corresponding on Famous.)
Mr. Boswell, 1) Thanks for
Mr. Boswell,
1) Thanks for taking the time to register an account on this site.
2) I don't take anything any of the candidates say as Gospel. I only believe what I can independently verify. If you won this prestigious award, why can't I find any mention of it on the website, outside your claims that you won it? The website I linked to listed the winners, of any age. I searched ksee24's website, and the video you refer to doesn't play. I see the ads play, but no story on (I tried on Windows & Mac). So why not point me (with a link or URL or website address) to the proof.
3) Were I a paid staffer of one of the top candidates, I would be spending time slamming the opposing top tier candidates.
4) As for your motor, I'll believe it when I see it. This type of snake oil has been around for thousands of years, and if you've pulled it off, congratulations. But the proof is in the pudding.
5) If seeking independent verification is offensive to you, might I suggest staying out of politics. Or will you be a mayor who silences opposition through intimidation tactics?
I find it very odd that it's so difficult to verify your claims via the Internet. I hope you could provide some URLs backing your claims. I would guess that if you have the time to write that impressive diatribe against an anonymous schmuck on the Internet, you could easily point out some links to diffuse the situation without falling into such a defensive stance.
Peace Out
Get your facts straight
Adarga,
My websites and videos are all over the net, so before you decide to slander someone, maybe you should actually get your facts straight or you could have even contacted me and I would have gladly answered your questions. I guess that would make it too easy for me to prove everything that I have said, unlike whomever you are obviously supporting.
You can go to KSEE 24.com and watch Coffee with the candidates and there you can see the much needed proof you are looking for in regards to the award I received. They took a video of the Jefferson Award. The site you were looking on only list the special section recipients. (Those under 30 years old, politicians, etc.)
You can also watch the show and see the pictures of me and my wife at the Jefferson Awards unless you think we flew to Washington D.C., sneaked into the State Building and took some quick pictures. And yes, in case you can't tell, I am very offended by your accusations. I have worked very hard and helped thousands of kids throughout the years. I was humbled and honored by the award I received and for you to doubt my statement without having any proof whatsoever is very insulting. I may be running for mayor, but I can assure you that I have been around the block more than once and I do not take slanderous remarks lightly. Unlike the precious top tier candidates, I was not born into wealth and I have had to actually earn every single thing I have. That includes this race. I have not taken one penny from special interests and yes, it is a fact that they have. Hunt, Garibay, Monreal and to my knowledge, Vagim has not taken any special interest money either, but the others have and it is easily proven.
When I first announced my green technology plans, the Fresno Bee wrote an article about how Perea and Dages attempted to "Pirate" my plans. Now, what do you think would happen if I openly released the designs and prototype of a motor that will revolutionize the auto industry as well as having many other uses? If you said, "someone would attempt to steal the design" you are finally correct about something.
Since you tried to even misinterpret the statement of how I received the figures I state, I can once again verify that I received the numbers from the city and the state when I was researching what positive changes would take affect by implementing my plans. Therefore, I didn't simply make up figures. I realize you are used to candidates like my opponents who just make things up and sometimes even do a lot of talking, but never say anything, but I always get my facts straight so I don't misquote anyone.
As far as the motor and this also rebuts EDLUV's ridiculous statement, The motor is based off of the magnetic force theory, (research Tesla and maybe do some work before making statements about things you obviously know nothing about) and yes, it is a very powerful motor that uses no fuel, electricity or water to provide the power. The reason I have been discussing this with foreign automakers is because the American automakers have not been interested. That is what we get when people and companies are in bed with special interests and big oil. I would have rather had this American made, but it looks like it will be American designed and Japanese made. Just because you don't understand something does not make me a person who has not told the truth or who has not done what I have said I have done. As for this mayoral race, the do nothing council members and the special interests have made this race just like any other. A whole lot of money being spent on people who will owe these special interests if elected and the people will once again, be forgotten. If one of these self proclaimed top tier candidates is elected, our city will continue to have the same problems and nothing will be accomplished towards making the quality of life better for the people. Again, if you are a paid staffer of Perea's or anyone else's, just let it go. You don't know what you are talking about and your questionable tactics make no sense. If you don't know the technology I have either introduced or the technology I have invented, then simply ask. Being a ignorant, venomous and flat out hateful person does not make you or your candidate look very good. Simply remember that I can prove every single thing I say. Try and get that from these top dogs you seem to like. They have been caught in so many lies already it's ridiculous and they haven't even been elected. This only shows that they have no idea of how to make our city better for the people, so they must lash out and hire people to slam and lie about other candidates.
Contribution Pie Chart
According to the Fresno Bee's campaign pie chart of the candidates, the three candidates with the largest dollar amounts from the building industry were: Perea ($98,000), Swearengin ($53,000), and Dages($42,000). In percentage of their overall donations, Dages (44%), Perea (38%) and Duncan (35%) had the most building donations. Swearengin had 19% of her contribution from the building industry. I thought Swearengin's distributions were the most evenly spread out. She received the largest percentage from business (25%)with finance, agriculture, and the building industry between 15-19% of the pie chart.
PAC to Give No More then $60,000
Out of the $750,000 the West Hollywood labor PAC had collected, no more then $60,000 will go to Henry T. Perea's campaign according to the Fresno Bee.
Sue, I take no offense, but I do appreciate (again) your perspective. I don't agree with your choice, but I appreciate your passion, your dedication, and your thoughts.
Here's my thought on fundraising and staffing: the next mayor, as the current and all past, will be in a position that requires leadership—a candidate who can gather support and knows how to publicize him/herself might also be good for finding funding and publicizing the city.
Jim seems like a nice guy, with great intentions. He doesn't have the charisma or personality I'm personally looking for in a mayor, but that's my preference. I don't, however, know that he's the "only" candidate who hasn't received special interest money, as I'm pretty sure I've heard that from Hunt, and I know I've heard it from Garibay.
Now, I would like to know more about that "fuel-less vehicle." I have no doubt they exist: I had a Big Wheel once (sorry, that's the best joke I've had today).
~
Well Sue, I'm sure, judging by the objective nature of your posts, that you're not a paid Boswell staffer. That's a relief.

Huh?

Boswells plans will also create thousands of good paying jobs with tangible benefits and again, this comes straight from the city and the state offices
END QUOTE
So "the city and the state offices" have given Boswell their endorsement? Or is this an inference?
And if Boswell has recently "perfected a vehicle motor that is completely fuel less," with all this foreign interest, why doesn't he mention it on his website? Hearing about it a few days prior to the election doesn't give people much time to research it. Or should we just take your word for it? I'd love to see a demo of it. And then maybe I'll get a demo of his perpetual motion machine, too. It would be nice if Boswell could put some links up, for those of us who'd like to know more.
As a side note, he claims he is a recipient of the National Jefferson Award for Community Service (http://www.communitycorrespondent.com/kmph/profiledetail.php?id=1595). But I can't find his name on the award's website (http://www.jeffersonawards.org/past_winners/index.html). Am I looking in the wrong place? His name doesn't even come up in the search. What is up with that?
I saw that too
I have noticed the way the commercials are mentioning "West Hollywood". It seems they are attempting to imply that he is gay.
Which shouldn't matter anyways, that is private unless the person makes it public.
I think it is a sad attempt at making Perea look bad. Please note, I didn't vote for him.
The way the ads have all turnt negative is sickening to me. The ads that Dages,Borgeas and Magsig are running are sad and honestly make me want to not vote for any of them.
let's be honest
i will RANDOMLY capitalize words in attempt to add EMPHASIS.
did YOU know that some of the EARLIEST engines used in motor vehicles ran off of OTHER fuels than gasoline? however, there is no such THING as a "fuel LESS" vehicle. everything requires some kind of FUEL, that is unless mr. boswell has perfected a PERPETUAL MOTION MACHINE, which i'm sure would be garnering much more national scientific attention, in fact world wife media other than some random post on a community website.
btw, i usually type without capitalization to de-emphasize most words. i realize that my stylistic preferences may not be appreciated by all.
Are you kidding me?
Your comments about Boswell are WAY OFF. There is NOTHING gimmicky about his green plans at all. Perea, Swearengin, Duncan, Dages and Boyajian are the candidates who keep touting the knee jerk "solar" power phrase. If you knew so much about Boswell, you would have at least read his plans or heard him speak since he has released the details of these plans all over the net. Unlike ANY other candidate who simply tell us what needs to be addressed, but they have no idea of how to create plans to make the quality of life better for Fresnans.
Boswell's green plans are NOT solar. Solar is inefficient and costly. Boswell has created plans for hybrid power generation systems that will create power. The costs of his plans are actually 75% less than what the taxpayers pay now for the NON GREEN PRODUCTS and even less than that over just solar power. So why wouldn't you want to pay less for something and have the benefit of this product MAKING YOU MONEY. Boswell received his dollar figures directly from the city of Fresno and the Secretary of State of California. The streetlight plan alone will not only create tens of millions in revenue, (THAT WILL BE USED FOR THE PEOPLE), but will also increase safety and can be installed along the freeways as well as the suburban areas where there is dense fog and no loghting. These can be installed without using copper wire since they are self sufficient. This would dramatically increase the safety in our country areas and people could actually drive on the freeways during the foggy months and still see. These are used in Asia already. If his plans are so gimmicky, why is Europe and Asia using his plans and technology? Why are many cities outside of California agreeing to use Boswells plans?
Boswell has also stated that the surplus of funds created by his plans will be used SOLELY FOR THE PEOPLE and has stated, (transit, clean air programs, public safety, education and more is where this surplus of funds will go). Boswells plans will also create thousands of good paying jobs with tangible benefits and again, this comes straight from the city and the state offices. The clean air plan is not an "air purification system", it is a system that takes in dirty air, converts the carbons using purification and a special lighting system that results in 100% clean and breathable air. I have seen these in China and they work wonders. Besides, no other candidate has any plans, much less plans that will benefit the people. Boswell is also THE ONLY CANDIDATE who has not received ONE PENNY from any special interests. His campaign has been funded by him, his wife and some of his "regular working people" supporters. You can VERIFY this by looking at the candidate financial statements, just as you can VERIFY how Perea, Swearengin, Duncan, Dages and Boyajian have ALL taken special interest money. Boswell will not owe any special interests when elected. Perea, Swearengin, Duncan, Dages and Boyajian are all backed by developers, nuclear power and more special interests who will forget about the people and ruin Fresno. If you think that no nuclear power plant will be built because it is illegal right now, why did the city council allow the nuclear group to begin their stufies in the area where they want to build this nuclear plant. Because special interests get politicians to overturn and change laws for their benefit. The information and proof is on their own websites. Look up Perea's, Swearengins, Duncans, Dages and Boyajians endorsements and then find out who these people are. Every on of these candidates has developers, nuclear group people and basically a who's who of special interests listed. Boswell has his endorsements listed along with what each individual does for a living so there is no question. The bottom line here is that we all know that if a candidate is elected who is also backed by special interests, these candidates will work for them, not the people of our city.
Boswell is also the person who recently perfected a vehicle motor that is completely fuel less. That is to say, his motor uses no expensive fuel, no costly electricity, no precious water and is completely self powering and self sustainable. The savings to the people in fuel, (or electricity) and the fact that there is no longer a need for oil changes, tune ups or maintenance will save each American thousands every year. Boswell also has two foreign auto makers who want to purchase the design and patents. If you want to know what kind of a person Jim Boswell is then read this carefully. Instead of taking the money and taking care of himself, Boswell is negotiating with these companies to build green manufacturing plants here in Fresno. One for the motor and one for the vehicles. This is because he wants to create jobs for the people. over 30,000 good paying jobs with great benefits. I saw the press conference and I have verified this myself. I'd like to see ANY other candidate think of the people and our city even when it comes to his own business ventures. But you keep talking Boswell down. You are either a paid staffer for Perea, or someone else, or you simply can't see how we FINALLY have a person who is, in Boswells words, "sick and tired of the politics as usual and sick of how the people are always forgotten". I can't beleive we finally have a person running for office who is honorable, has REAL plans, REAL SOLUTIONS and is running for mayor because he wants to make out city and our lives better and yet, we still have those who will put someone who thinks of others first, down for attempting to help others. Boswell has been awarded one of the highest honors for public service in the country. What has ANY other candidate done for us? NOTHING.
BTW Pido, I am passionate about the thought of having a mayor who will work for us, etc., but I did not mean to come off rude to you. I am simply tired of watching our city go to ruin and along comes a man who wants to, and can accomplish making our city better as well as making our city a leader of this country and I have a difficult time understanding why the people of Fresno are not running to support Boswell. Our future here is dim to say the least and we have an opportunity to make it better. I truly hope that the people wake up and elect Boswell so we can live in a great city and look forward to a better future. And no, I am not a paid staffer or anything else, but a citizen who has done her homework on the candidates. And no, not one candidate is perfect, but we DO in fact, have a candidate who can accomplish the goals he has made and I am tired of reading and watching people put a good person down because they are blinded by the "self proclaimed top tier candidates". I guess the only thing Boswell should have done is rent out a staff of political advisors and spin doctors, but he decided to run an honest campaign by using his brain instead of hiring others to think for him;(
