lunch review charlotte's bakery

i know that people have posted about charlotte's here before, but i figured that i would give it a little write up anyway. it's worth it.

charlotte's isn't your traditional bakery. sure, they do cookies and cakes, but what they specialize in is fresh bread. that bread makes the perfect sandwiches. you will probably want to call ahead and order lunch because otherwise, you may have to wait in line. also, they don't open until like 10:30, so you can't stop by and get a cup of coffee and a bagel on your way to work.

today, i went with their soup and sandwich deal. i went with the half sandwich, but you can get a whole one. but, hey, you're getting 16 oz of soup so settle down there.

the soups vary, and today's was tomato. this ain't your grandma's can of campbell's . this is fresh tomato, made with locally grown vegetables. the soup is almost meaty, although it's vegetarian. you know how tomato soup can be water? not this soup. it's pulpy-ish, and very flavorful. there are bits of celery, carrots and more veggie goodiness in this soup.

the sandwich, pastrami. they serve both hot and cold pastrami sandwiches, but only the cold ones are in the soup deal. i went with the wheat sourdough (white, tomato basil were the other choices). mayo, mustard, swiss, lettuce, tomato combine with the thin sliced pastrami to delight your taste buds. my only complaint, the mustard is just some plain old yellow variety. give me some spicy brown!

finally, the bread there is great, and relatively inexpensive for sourdough. seriously, i've stopped buying sourdough at the store, which is a staple in our house. i just buy bread here.

My eye

Quite a few of those in the area. Not that there's anything wrong with that. This one did have a different look on the outside. Good luck to them

Charlotte's

Is that a tattoo shop on the same block as Charlottes? I drove by and couldn't tell for certain what the first store there was? Anyone?

-rat-bastids....

'former location of,'
-...so like Irenes just moved...? (like this was the 'first place' Irenes was...

cool...

keep those revue's comin' there perfessor runnin-shoe, They are going to come in handy.
-it would seem the close of 2007 hath revealed a somewhat steady lunch, dinner, and late-night snack companion of same dance height, dazzling smile, and amazing blue eyes to this verbose key-strake...

(...last night we were going to go to 'Marie Calendars,' on Blackstone, (Her choice, 'good pies,' etc. etc. ---which I agree, good pie..)
-but a quick recon of the site,
(pre-babe arrival,) revealed an pronounced 'unpleasant smell,'
-throughout the place... (and no, it was not goatcheese pizza I ate at Denver on my layover the day before...)
But seriously, it had that 'old folks home cafeteria/ old folks home 'necessary room,' odeur that told me that their carpets have the ghosts of many entrees ground in and creating new lifeforms...

-We were thinking 'Sweet Tomatoes,' -but it was way crowded, -so we dropped back some yards and hit Macaroni Grill.
---Food was pretty good (I mean, having just had some great 'talian chow in Little Italy with my fam (3) nights out of (6) back home, I didn't have my hopes too high... -The Marsalla sauce was pretty good, (major garlic cloves lurking about,) and the fettucini used rather pronounced cheeses (welcome change, -usually most places have a 'cini sauce that tastes like chalk-dust, water and flour...)

-Strangest thing though?
-When it came time for dessert, I asked hour host how the connolli was...
'...um, (sheepishly, she looks down, baffled, even..)
We used to have it, but nobody ordered it, it just didn't sell, -so we don't have connolli anymore...'

oh fresno, fresno, fresno...

PS:
Drag the significant other of one's own personal choice off to see 'Enchanted,'
-yep it's a fairy tale, yep it's a chick film, yep it's based on more fairy-tales and disney lines come to life, -and yep, the songs are great... (my personal fav? -the singing cockroaches in 'Happy Working Song.')
Totally worth going to see...
