Speak and ye shall receive

Following on the heals of Ashley Swearengin, Henry T. Perea announced his run to replace Bubba last night via the Internet.

He describes his choice of medium this way:

I chose to announce online because I wanted to do something different. To see my announcement, blog, and other information please go to www.perea2008.com.

As the campaign evolves, I look forward to talking with you about the many important issues facing our community. I hope to earn your support.

It time for a new Mayor Campaign "No to More of the Same"

Let the elected fools know you dont support any of them for Mayor.

Make it clear to them the public is tired of "More of the Same" as in same BS diffrent canidate.

Say "No" to anyone currently or previously on the City Council, or working in City Hall.

The "Good Ol' Boys" need to go.

This includes the Clovis Carpetbagger.

We don't want outsiders running our City.

As for current Coucil Members;

Jr. is too inexperinced?

Dahling, lets just hold hands and sing showtunes while we accessorise City Hall.

Do we want the whole City looking like Mike Dages district?

Let the drunk street people hang out on street corners and in front of liquor stores everywhere.

Mr. Dages is the last one we need as Mayor.

Let anyone running know they wont get your vote if they represent more of the same.

have no idea who said this first but:

it's something like:

'...all polititians are like puppies at the pet store, when you're there it's like 'pick-me!,''pick-me!,''pick-me!'

-but when you finally choose one?
(and take them home?)

They all get into garbage, and wind up peeing on your floor...'

It's that time of year

It's elections season. All politicans claim they do or have done amazing things. They say anything to get your vote. You just have to look at what they have accomplished and what you think they might be able to accomplish.
It's still to early in the race to decide for sure.

November "08

With the vote in November next year, it should leave plenty of time to find the best candidate.

Who is going to take up the transportation issues and address a solution for the rise in gasoline prices as it affects everyone's pocketbook? (www.centraltransit.com) This transportation solution entity hasn't received an email from any politicians other than Andreas Borgeas who has my vote for council, daing wrong district.

An equally important question: who is going to be the new Governor? Which mayoral candidate has a strong relationship with the next Governor?

3 cent

And Ashley taking credit for creating an upswing in the real estate market which created thousands of temporary construction jobs is okay?

Good point

Very well said. I am also skeptical of career politicians. Especially if the entire family is in politics. Also, remember having a SAG card, entitles one great knowlegde on all subjects, including politics. I've never understood the concept.
I think we need someone fresh and not someone from the city council. It's time for change, bring some new faces and fresh ideas.

What a surprise!

I am certain that Mr. Perea "wants to bring back downtown", but who is going to say they don't. Downtown is one area of the city and is not the end all be all. While a vibrant downtown would be wonderful, a mayor cannot force change upon the community. The recent successes downtown have come in spite of bungled RDA plans (FYI, the Council acts as the Board of Directors for the RDA) and disjointed City goals and efforts. Let the marketplace keep proving that it can accomplish what politicians cannot.

BTW, there are many areas of the city other than downtown that need attention. One glaring example - Fresno's west side. Been there recently? Try to find a grocery store or decent place to eat or a place to buy clothes (other than a thrift store). Not many jobs west of Hwy. 99 in those neighborhoods so many people rely on public transportation to get to a few places of employment or shopping. So many problems that the City could address, but that is for another post.

Please take a moment to review Mr. Perea's Bio page. What's missing? Experience outside of public service. Mr. Perea graduated from Fresno State and ran for his father's council seat. He's certainly not the first person nor will he be the last to trade on his last name, but I think it would be beneficial for the mayor to be someone who has aspired to something other than elected office or being an actor. Don't get me wrong, public service is meaningful, but I'm skeptical of people who make elected political positions their vocation, especially when they have had no other experiences.

To me, Mr. Perea's "accomplishments" do not demonstrate anything more than what would be expected from someone who has been a full-time policitian since 2002. Read the words on the Web site, "Built the city’s first senior center at Manchester Center," and "Led the city’s first housing loft project in downtown Fresno in over 20 years." Typical politico speak. Mr. Perea did not "build" anything at Manchester Center nor did he "lead" Reza Assemi's loft project. "Support" perhaps, maybe even "advocate", but it is incorrect for him to take credit for the private sector's successes.

My three cents.

fingers crossed

Yeah, I'd really like to see Perea get a shot at this job.
He seems to be really behind Downtown and realizes that the
'I-Know,-Let's-Just-Hire-More-Policeman' election platform just
isn't enough to get Fresno to move forward.
I live in the County, not in the City, so I'm just gonna have to
try and get all my CityFriends to vote for him.
I'd like a bit o' hope.

Not sure

Personally, I am waiting to hear more from all the parties running. I want to hear what everyones issues are. I think it's to early for me to decide on one person just yet. However there are a few I know I wouldn't vote for period. I am ready for someone fresh and new. I think Fresno needs change, a breathe of fresh air.

I'd vote for him

He's pretty cool. I like his environmental stance and he actually WANTS to help bring back downtown. I'd vote for him.
