Thanks to Mike Oz for giving us the heads up on this guy, who seems like he's trying to pull some kinda Fresno Famous coup...from Newport Beach. Not cool man, not cool.
ya see, it was over some chow at Happy Pig, that Jag had explained the term 'Fresno famous,' one day
-and explained that it was a sort of tongue in cheek 'round here,' sort of phrase.
(references: '____' is really famous, but they're only Fresno famous, outside of Fresno nobody's ever heard of them.'
sort of plays into that:
'Fresno is not 3 hours FROM anywhere, it's actually ONLY 3 hours to everything...'
-Since I'm not from around here???
-and had no idea how long the phrase was in use?
-Nice to have two area historians pin things down a little...
(I dunno, maybe Jarah thought it up on her own, and Jag was there to see it all happen in a grande witness to something sacred...)
-or something like that.

I think it came right after:
"They're famous, but they're Toledo Famous."
Which came right after:
"They're famous, but they're Olympia Famous."
Which, (actually the next two are disputed as to chronology)
"They're famous, but they're Lexington Famous" & "They're famous
but they're Flagstaff Famous"
i've never heard anyone say, "yeah, they're famous, but they're Fresno famous."
doesn't mean it's not out there, i've just never heard it. so, since the first time i heard the saying was a few days ago when you posted it, i'll vote for the website.
Yeah, playah wannabe HAHAAHAAA! He and his "gangsta" themes are pretty funny. Looks like he's from Fresno, now in Newport Beach. I'm thinking he doesn't even know FresnoFamous.com exists ... he probably thinks he's so clever for coming up with the phrase/name.
If this guy gets sued, he'll go martyr and just use it to bump his 'outlaw,' gangsta image... (so it could actually help him to promote further,)
Trademarks and symbols and stuff are funny things anymore... If FresFam is completely owned (both as a 'title,' and symbol (ditto the 'F,') --Then there are grounds
--if it's just a phrase 'Yeah, they're famous, but they're Fresno famous.' (Which, I think was a phrase long before Ms. Jarah built on it???)
-it could be a problem claiming ownership...
Last time I checked, there is an attorney or two who is on this thing all the time, --might just want to chime in on copywrite laws and stuff...
(Either way? clamping this guy, (if there is legal recourse to do so,) needs to be done as quickly and with as little fanfare as possible...
-else you'll have just another clown who will ride to the top of (whatever charts they want,)
claiming 'it ain't right, this site and McClatchy are beating down on the little man... oppression, oppression...'
-Which may be why he chose the names and symbols that he did...
Proceed with caution, if need be.
PS: -Just for hoots and hollers?
Look at the degree of promo posters for shows (even locally,) that are taking trademark artwork, 70's TV shows, stars, movies, --and just cutting and pasting their own titles, images, and informations on...
--are all of these situaitons using tradmarked 'owned,' imagery and promotions (that have now become 'public domain?') -or paying royalties and fees to use them (if still owned by their origins/creators?)
---or are they some local/yokel scamming/collage'n on somebody elses work, (just owned by a big bucks movie studio or whatever, rather than a (medium bucks) newspaper company...?)
What be creative license, and what be da Emperors new Jockey-Shortzes...?
what a dirtball. not only is he stealing the name of a well established local website, but he's also appropriating the logo for famous stars & straps. very original.
perhaps now that the real fresno famous has the weight of mclatchy they should file a cease & desist. unleash the corporate hounds!
thanks fellas, really...
