Mexico/Liberty Theater Sign Gone?
Does anybody know what happened to the sign at the Mexico/Liberty Theater? The vertical "M-E-X-I-C-O" marquis used to be above the old Hardy's sign, it's gone. Does the City of Fresno protect such architectural heritage?
For those who don't know (from www.cinematreasures.org):
"This oldest theater in Fresno was built in 1917 in Second Empire Revival style and was designed by W.D. Coates and H.B. Travers, local architects, responsible for Fresno and other California landmarks.
The 1950s marquee of the Liberty, whose exterior is remarkably well preserved, shows a later name, Hardy?s, while a large vertical sign displays the name MEXICO.
Fresno for a town its size has so many classic theaters that one could spend a half a day looking at them. Some others are Warnor?s, the Wilson, the Crest, the Tower and the Azteca.
In 2001 the city of Fresno began plans for a massive downtown revitalization but it is unknown what role the Liberty, which is on the Local Register of Historic Resources, will play."

I had some...
....good times in the balcony of that theater back in the '30's! 'Nuff said!
Really? Haven't noticed
I'm not sure how long the Mexico sign's been there but I know it can't possibly be longer than the Hardy's marquee.
That theater in particular is one I wish would be restored including the Liberty mural on the south end of the building.
Not sure where it went
But it's been gone for over a month now
