Rebecca Ryan's New Book

You may already know about Rebecca Ryan. She’s come to Fresno a couple of times on the nickel of the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, One by One Leadership and the City of Fresno. Several hundred folk were able to enjoy Rebecca’s upbeat, funny and thought-provoking talks, as she shared information gathered from her interviews with more than 24,000 young people about their life and work priorities.

I just finished Rebecca Ryan’s enjoyable and informative first book “Live first, Work Second.” The self-published work should be read by business and community leaders across the country. The book is about the increased importance of keeping and attracting young talent because of impending demographic shifts. It is also a helpful how-to guide for anyone interested in building a better community or business, as we look to the future.

Rebecca makes very clear points about the differences in perspective between generations, which give reason and substance to her suggestions. This book does not simply state a problem, it gives clear examples of her points and great suggestions on how we can all benefit from each other’s experiences, across generational lines.

If you run a business, have a kid, are a kid, or are a community leader (elected officials and economic development-types especially!) please read this book. Rebecca has found her voice in her writing. Anyone lucky enough to have been to one of her talks, will enjoy the thoughtful humor that she uses to get her points across. This book is a fun and pleasurable read, and is also vitally important…pretty damn good combination Rebecca!

Hey Craig,

don't know if you will read this, but I googled aldo's pizza tonight out of nostalgia (I worked there & it's sister restaurant, Popolo's, when I was a struggling student at FCC), and landed at your blog. My wife and I moved away from fresno many years ago, but still have many memories of our lives there - I'd love to hear more - drop me a line at kjgorny.hotmail.com and let's catch up...
