Ceramic Exhibition by Garrett Masterson “Human Torso” and a Group Exhibition in honor of William Saroyan’s 100th anniversary
The February exhibitions at the Fig Tree Galley will be an exhibit by ceramic artist, Garrett Masterson presenting his recent work entitled “Human Torso” and a group exhibit by various members of Fig Tree Gallery in honor of William Soroyan’s centennial anniversary. The both exhibits open at 5pm on Thursday, February 7th for Art Hop.
Garrett Masterson has been creating figurative sculptures over two decades. “The human body provides an unending source of inspiration, full of meaning and metaphor. I have not yet come to the end of my exploration of the human form,” Masterson says. Masterson’s sculptures are constructed of clay slabs, torn, pressed and padded into shape to express a volume of space rather than a solid mass. The stony, fragile shell of the figures and the strong, active interior volumes combine to suggest qualities of strength and endurance of the human spirit in association with the elements of time. Masterson will be available to discuss his work with visitors during ArtHop as well as on Saturday, March 1st.
In addition, Fig Tree Gallery joins a statewide celebration honoring Fresno native author William Saroyan during the 100th anniversary year of his birth by exhibiting various members’ works inspired by Saroyan.
