Panning near Fresno

Our club goes to Broken Bridge for outings, it is public area near Friant Dam (no dredging). We use a sluice and pans out in the middle and find some color. Google Maps search 36.991, -119.7138

Up near Coarsegold is good, I have heard of some areas near the road still produce small nuggets (a law keeps claims from a certain distance from center of road) but you need to check that it isn't claimed. Im not sure if locals are generous with this information or not.

Those are the closest areas I have heard of so far. There is a local miner's supply in Clovis, RCM, he might be able to help further. Check our website (posted earlier) Links for his info.

As for metal detecting, the Clovis Rodeo is going on this weekend... Friday night concert etc. Don't know if they would let you check the rodeogrounds before/after performances. I am not familiar with other detecting locations yet. Maybe RCM can help with that also.

Hope I have helped a little :)
