A ROLLER DERBY UPDATE!
Hey everyone!
Smog City Roller Grrls are back and ready to rumble in the SUMMER SMACKDOWN!!!!
SMOG CITY ROLLER GRRLS vs. PRISON CITY DERBY DAMES!
This bout is hard earned and let me tell you whY!
We originally had a date with the Inland Empire Derby Divas from Riverside CA but due to injury of 3 of their girls they had to pull out.
We made the call to Cali's finest leagues and the Prison City Derby Dames from Chino CA jumped at the opportunity to bout us grrls from Fresno!!!!
We are really excited for this upcoming bout because we know we have what it takes to knock those Prison City Dames right outta their skates!
For those of you who have been to our bouts you know that roller derby is a tough sport. It is physically taxing and extreme. It is not fake and it is legitimately rough. We put our bodies through some grueling stuff and we do it for the genuine love of the game and for your entertainment. Unfortunately, the game doesnt always love us back!
We lost a few girls to injuries over the last month. Dragon Bait will no longer be skating with us due to blown out knees. We are super sad and are all rooting for a speedy recovery although we dont expect her back til next season.
Our lovely little Pookie broke her ankle last week. Ironically it was during a bout last weekend while skating with the Inland Empire girls. She volunteered to help fill their roster because of those few girls who were injured. During that bout against Bakersfield, she took a nasty fall and split her ankle in 3 places. She wont be skating for a long long time! I guess not all good deeds go unpunished!!!
Eva Abhor pulled some tendons in her ankle and will be out for this bout.
Soooo what that means is that us remaining grrls need lots of love and support because we may be skating short and we'll need all the cheering and screaming and yelling Fresno can offer!!!
Again, those of you who have watched us skate know that those jams go quickly and we have mere minutes to catch our breath and get back onto the track. Imagine this with 3 girls less to work with!!!
So please, show up, show some love and show those Prison Dames what Fresno is made of!!!!

WOW!
i didnt mean to offend anyone from NAW. Its just that i have never been a fan of "entertainment" wrestling because it SEEMS extremely "staged." I never said fake. I asked if it was real. I believe the falls are real and the pain is real but there is nothing staged about derby.
I know that my cousin won 1st place in his weight division in wrestling at the University of San Francisco 3 years ago and THAT was real.
as for throwing each other around and dropping 10 feet to the floor, i believe the pain of that is real but i dont think that is what wrestling was ever intended to be.
BUT i'm not knocking you for doing what you do. Apparently you guys do it well because there is a huge following and a demand for it. so much so that you are recruiting our grrls.
I will tell you this, if you think roller girls are interested in that, you are sorely mistaken. you are barking up the wrong tree. Us girls are in it for the sport, not the action. Thats what the fans are there for. We are there to earn points and win legitimately. the fans are there to see blood. Maybe ask one of our fans if they'd like to join. Count us girls out!
But good luck in your endeavors!
Oh come on
My Aunt used to skate for the old Bay Area Bombers. Everyone knows Rollar Derby, like pro wrestling is a work and its Sports Entertainment. Yes both the skaters and wrestlers are athletes who risk personal injury doing what they do but please dont think the general population, even in Fresno are that gullible.
I have been to both(Wrestling and Derby) and both put on very good entertaining shows.
Both worth the price of admission in my book.
I think they would do well to work together.
Rock on Girl and see ya June 28th
Tell you what
You come to one of our shows or where we train. And step in the ring. We'll be happy to show you how "fake" it is.
You have been watching Huckster Hogan too much.
it hurts dropping from 10 feet up to the floor with no crash pads to cushion your fall.
Of course if you dont think you can handle it :)
Awww Shucks!!!
and shit and damn and hell!!!
Mike is right. being that he's the masochist pushing us in the 101 degree heat he knows!
We dont make this stuff up folks! its 100% real. We are crazy for doing it but would go crazy if we didnt. So come watch us bout or practice and you'll know that we are serious about our derby!
Plus, if you're lucky, after a bout, you may get a kiss from a smog city roller grrl!
I've seen the Grrls play two bouts now (and was also lucky enough to hang out with them in the Tower passing out flyers for their 80's prom) and they are some of the toughest people I've ever met. Skating like they do on concrete and taking (and dishing) the hits they do is extremely hardcore and takes a lot of toughness and guts. Hell I remember Hari Kari taking a hit to the head on the concrete floor and getting a concussion and going to the hospital only to show up at the after game party. How much more tough can you get?
Unfortunately I won't be able to make next week's bout, I have to take my girlfriend to Lemoore for some work related stuff. Still I know the Grrls will kick a bunch of ass and make whoever they are playing regret coming to Fresno to challenge them.
Hmmm I may have to go to the practice to get my derby fix till the next bout.
Roller derby is not a spectacle
It is an athletic event of the toughest women on skates working their asses off to score more points that the other tough bitches they are up against. While there are some large personalities, nothing is staged. There is no "planned" victors. The only thing made up in roller derby is the alter ego names that the ladies take on. Other than that it is 100% REAL. If you dont believe me, come to a practice or two. Come watch these grrls practice hurt, tired and still push every ounce of their heart into the sport. Come see them work on strategies and drills to improve their chances of winning.
ROLLER DERBY IS LEGIT!
I am Mike the Medic and I approve this message
?
Is NAW 100% authentically real? Because everything we do it real. no theatrics what-so-ever.
We like to keep it real!
Augment that toughness
And some of you girl come train at North American Wrestling in Fresno. Utilize those skill both in the ring and on the rink.
Its much easier for women who are talented to go futher in wrestling than the men and NAW is well equipped in training women.
