i wanted to submit this to Fresno Famous, and it's a shame that it's not in time for the show.
that's the thing with ideas, (dammit), you can't have them until you do.

When I finally got home to Fresno
After being banned for many years
For their lack of inspiration
I was disgusted with my peers

But a whole new generation of creative kids had come of age
Like a rising flaming phoenix
Emerging from the bloated corpse of corrupt mediocrity
And by that you know I mean Fresno

Not the city of Phoenix which is huge
But comparatively lame
Doesn’t have an arts and entertainment district
Fresno actually puts it to shame

But my point is that the new scene is ruled by the “Children of the new revolution”
Who got Barack Obama elected
And made Brian Kenney Fresno cry
Some people say he’s crazy but he’s a very sensitive guy

And he really made all the effort
So I knew it “really wasn’t my fault”
But I needed someone to tell me
That we all could make a difference

If we only took it all the way
We’d eventually have our say
You’re the only band in Fresno that ever asked me to come out and play

When I was standing there so lonely
A stranger in my own home town
You introduced me to your friends and championed my Fresno Sound ™

Gave me a new life in Fresno
Not likely I’ll forget so
Come join me and we’ll celebrate
And all sing

Their friends are high profile bloggers
The Indie rock Business model’s more effective than the Metalheads or the Proggers
They do residencies in Los Angeles at huge clubs I can never get a show
I tried for 10 years at spaceland- Jennifer the booker always says “no”

As the next big thing not maybe
Mike Osegueda at the Fresno Bee
Desperately wants to have their baby

They write great songs and record them
And go out and tour the nation
A concept lost on Fresno bands who just accept
The Mustang Sally situation

So if you need someone to root for and some hometown champs to cheer
A reason to go to Tokyo Garden after art hop and drink some beer
It’s the 1st Thursday of every month make your plans before the date nears
It’s the thing to do in Fresno and it’s been going on for years
