'bug', a creative jazz group with members from throughout the US will collaborate with the acclaimed Buchanan High School Jazz Band "A", in a concert featuring premieres of several compositions and arrangements by composer James Miley.
'bug' was formed (accidentally) in 2004 when the members of the group were brought together to accompany saxophonist Peter Epstein at a jazz festival held at Cuesta College. The next fall, the group found itself on tour through California, and in 2006 the band toured again while they recorded their first CD, "Murmur." 2007 found the band performing in Michigan, and this year the band brings it's "World Domination Tour, Pt. IV" to Fresno (Clovis, actually) before parking in Los Angeles to record the second CD of original compositions.
All the members are active musicians and educators and possess a staggering range of performing experience and accomplishments.
'bug' is: Peter Epstein, saxophone
James Miley, piano
Jeff Miley, guitar
Roger Shew, bass
Brian Hamada, drums
The group will be accompanied by the Buchanan High School Jazz Band "A", performing compositions & arrangements by James Miley, including a premiere of Radiohead's "Everything In It's Right Place." The Buchanan Jazz Ensemble is directed by Paul Lucckesi.
The Buchanan High School Jazz Band "A" has amassed numerous national awards and recognition over the past few years which has positioned them inarguably at the top of all the high school jazz ensembles in the U.S. In September they performed on the main stage at the 51st Annual Monterey Jazz Festival, an honor they earned by winning the Next Generation Festival held earlier this year. In April 2008 they were awarded Outstanding High School Instrumental Ensemble at the 46th Annual Reno Jazz Festival.
The concert will be held at the new 'crown jewel' of local performing venues, the Paul Shaghoian Concert Hall, on the campus of Clovis North High School.
This event will be a rare opportunity to hear creative, cutting-edge music - represented by the very best of today's present (and future) creative jazz musicans.
