i've been past carlton's many times since it opened in april, but hadn't been able to make a stop in to eat. i had a little extra time and a little cash in my pocket so i headed over to see what they had. i do not regret my decision at all. not only did i have a great lunch, but i was also able to check out a cool spot to hang out before things @ selland arena, like a falcons' game. they're only listed as being open mon-fri, but since hockey is going on they'll be open on saturdays as well. que bueno. the decor is nice with photos of jazz musicians and a subtle color scheme. they have a full bar, with 6 beers on tap (blue moon, widmer, shock top, bud, bud light, coors light).
i came in towards the tail end of the lunch service @ 2, although technically it runs from 11-3. dinner goes from 4-7. i'd say the restaurant seats about 40, with tables and seats at the bar. i was able to sit down quickly and then perused the menu. honestly, one of the first things that i saw on the specials menu caught my eye and it's what i ordered: the southern style catfish with collard greens & bread. i was actually a bit surprised that the food was up so quick, but i think that it was because they didn't have any other orders in at that second.
anyway, the catfish was delightful. it had a light breading to it that was flavorful but not overpowering. i think i expected a little more spice from "southern" but i guess that's more cajun or creole. anyway, the fish was cooked all the way through but was still quite juicy. i don't normally rock the tartar sauce, but thought i'd try it out and was surprised by its tangy goodness. the pilaf side was decent, and was good after a tad bit of salt & pepper added by me. i'm not sure if i had ever had collard greens before, but they were nice. they were my least favorite part of the meal, but whatever, it was still all good. honestly, the portion size could've been a little smaller since it was lunch. i'm sort of stuff and not motivated to get much else done today.
i'll definitely hit this place up before i go to a falcons' game this season with some friends.

Loved it!
I loved this place! I went there last night (Friday) to enjoy the live music, it was my first time there and I was pleasantly surprised that as soon as we came in, the manager introduced herself and welcomed us, and also introduced the 2 waitresses working there that night.
We ordered something to drink and later on we got hungry and decided to order food which was very good.
I had a great time, all the staff was very friendly, and kept topping up our drinks. They also have 2 big screens to watch the games. The ladies room was exceptionally clean.
Most definetely go back!
