Coming soon to Southeast Fresno

» I'm cross-posting this from TasteFresno, as it's 1) local, 2) south of Shaw, and 3) freaking awesome.

  • What: Farmers Market at Burroughs
  • When: Wednesdays, 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., beginning September 3
  • Where: Burroughs School Neighborhood Resource Center, 166 N. Sierra Vista (corner of Tulare and Sierra Vista)

Every Wednesday morning I meet with a couple of guys from my church at the Starbucks at Sierra Vista. As I left our meeting this morning, I noticed a sign in the parking lot advertising the weekly farmers market, and thought about how great it would be to have one near the house. I love the Clovis Farmers Market (Friday nights during the summer) and the Vineyard Farme's Market (year round), but they're not very close to the house.

That was around 7:36 a.m. At 1:24 p.m., I received an email from Fresno Metro Ministry announcing a new farmer's market in southeast Fresno. What?!?!

From the press release:

Fresno Metro Ministry and the Central California Obesity Prevention Project Get Fit Fresno County announce the first response to the new Fresno City Ordinance on Farmers Markets that addresses food access and nutrition needs in South Fresno. The new Farmers Market at Burroughs will be the first Farmers Market on Fresno Unified School grounds, highlighting how our schools can be true neighborhood resources for families.

Not only is this a positive embrace of the City's recent change in the ordinance that governs farmers markets, but it's the first farmers market on an FUSD campus. That being so, the market will be weekly but seasonal, and from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

I doubt I'll make it out very often because of the conflict with my work schedule, but I'm excited, nonetheless. Then again, it's close enough to visit on my lunch break.

You mean I don't have to go to R&N for all my produce now?
