Could EMHO become an annual event?

This thing is getting media play everywhere.

It is fitting, if not totally expected. What's sad is, in some way, I feel like the act itself is marred by the fact it's being done for TV.

That's why I love Bill McEwen's idea of making this an annual event (minus the first line ... What does Mike Oz tell us about getting on the map?). Imagine it: one house each year, created without the lights and cameras and famous faces. There would be no big-media sponsorships (there would probably be some local media tie-ins, I'm sure), just us citizens pulling together to help one of our own (of our own accord). We'd probably have to change the name and maybe start some kind of 501(c)(3) or something to deal with all the monetary and legal issues. But it totally seems doable.

But maybe we could help them sell the wheel better?

I hope so, Fresno needs to get its act together if it intendeds to compete with other small cities, hear the latest?

Clovis is now making loans to companies to move there, funny for a city that ain't got money, it's sure spending it

Fresno needs to hire the City of S.F to clean street camp mess

Every night they go thru and spray the ares with disenfectant and water at high pressure.
It's time to eliminate street camps. Stop wasting tax dollars on them. The are "hpmeless" by choice. They choose to make messes everywhere.

I see your point.

No need to reinvent the wheel. But maybe we could help them sell the wheel better? If that makes sense.

we already do, its called Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity has been doing this for years

a quote from their site:

At Habitat for Humanity Fresno County we are constantly looking for ways to impact the lives of Fresno County families. Our Board of Directors is currently working on an aggressive and exciting five-year strategic plan that would enable us to serve 30 families per year! The need definitely exists among us. With the help and efforts of everyone connected with Habitat, we are confident we will achieve our goal.

How can you help?

Bill McEwen has been doing this for years, he only gets half the story, if he got out of his office more, used the bus, talked to people around town, he might just get a better take on whats going on here in the Burg

btw, volunteers needed at H4H, check their website

sweat equity is involved for those chosen as participants in H4H programs, help learn skills on someones else's home first, then you're required to put in X amount of time on yours

apparently mortgages are required at EM;Home Edition, it ain't free either

meetings? hot wings? FUSE debrief.

Yeah, of course it's a good idea.
Anytime you get that spirit of volunteerism and involvement going, it's a good thing.

Oh man, there'd probably be meetings though, huh?

I think it's hotwings at Heros for FUSE Festival debrief tonight.

Fresno Hotel ... Bank of Italy

It would be good to see a Downtown Fresno Makeover... too bad those 4,000 volunteers could not go to the old Fresno Hotel and spend a month fixing it up.

Regarding the Bank of Italy building, you would think that because it was the second Bank of Italy building built in the State and it's historically tied to the original in San Fransisco that the Bank of America could invest in to restoring their founding history. But then BofA left California years ago for Charlotte, North Carolina. But i guess it's progress to give up your founding history.

but for get those forgotten and abondoned for around 30 years buildings.

Fresno really needs to take care of the overwhelming homeless shanty tent city town south of Fresno's Chinatown. I think if a military type barracks was built for the homeless over in that area it would be a much better site than the Tent City thats there now, it would even be better than Carlos Browns storage shack city that was build there.

If this new Depression keeps going in to this next decade there is going to be more homeless people and living in a place like a barracks will be better than in a Tent.

i agrees

hell, it's great pub for all the local vendors that are doing it. it doesn't need to be a tv show per se, but i'm sure it would get tons of local media coverage. and it's a tax write off (okay, i'm assuming that).

we don't necessarily need to start something new. maybe these businesses could help out with agencies like habitat for humanity to do a house a year.
