FRESNO STATE STUDENTS TO HOST DEAF POETRY JAM
FRESNO, Calif., Nov. 2, 2009 – University Courtyard’s Diversity Committee presents it’s first-ever Deaf & Hearing Poetry Jam. This student-run group has partnered with members of the local deaf community to present this unique event of spoken and signed works.
The event and name is a twist on “Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry,” a spoken word showcase created by the rap impresario that aired on HBO and became a Broadway show. The show sometimes featured poets who signed.
The “Deaf and Hearing Poetry Jam” organized at Fresno State will feature spoken pieces, signed works and poems translated back and forth for a dynamic night.
