dinner review oggi trattoria
May 17, 2008
sometime back senses cuisine closed it's doors. i was sad to see this place go because it was something different: organic, fresh, tapas.
in it's place a new restaurant has opened: oggi trattoria. it's been open for about three months now and i was finally able to go there and eat. it was worth the wait.
the restaurant seats about 50 people inside, and there were a few small parties eating when we came in. by the time we had finished our meal there was a large party and several other smaller parties as well. although the ownership hasn't done much to advertise, the word is getting out. on nicer evenings, you might want to sit out on their back patio.
there were three of us for dinner, and each of us enjoyed the meal. two of us began with soup, which was a minestrone. they also had a lentil soup, but we went sort of traditional. the soup was very flavorful and hearty. the offered fresh ground pepper or grated parmesan and i added the permesan, which was a nice touch.
i had veal marsalla. the sauce was sweet, the mushrooms were nice, and the veal was tender. it was served along with an angel hair pasta that had a nice taste as well. ($21)
my wife went simple and had the caprese salad ($8) (she also had soup). this dish is pretty difficult to mess up being that it's only sliced tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, basil, and balsamic vinegar. fortunately, they prepared it nicely, the taste was good, and the presentation was nice.
the third part of our party ordered the meat lasagna ($14). he enjoyed it, and was pleased with the taste. the portion sizes were a little large, and so we brought some of the lasagna home with us.
overall, the service was very friendly and helpful. our server refilled drinks quickly, and checked on us at the right times.
