Money troubles aside, the Fresno MET has some things going for it. It's housed in a beautiful building, in a magnificent DOWNTOWN location with wonderful views from its fourth-floor gallery.
Which is most of what made Let Them Eat Cake the event it was. Yes, the bands were good and the DJs were good and I shook my body some. And yes, the cupcakes were delish (I had the red velvet with cream-cheese frosting) and free, and the crowd was fun and chill and the whole thing seemed to go off without a hitch.
There's another review, here.
But what sold it for me was location, location, location.
There was something especially fun about being on the first floor, dancing (ironically, I think) to Miley Cyrus while a bunch of 20- and 30-somethings tried their hands at the "kids" exhibits. Did anyone figure out the galloping horse? I had to be shown. Seeing the bands silhouetted by the Fresno skyline you realize what a treasure of a place the MET is.
Having an event tied to the opening (or, in this case, closing) of an exhibition is a smart idea, from a marketing standpoint and here's hoping they will keep it up. Not saying they need to do something every month (there's such a thing as overkill), but it never hurts to remind people how cool you are.
yup.
i'm with you whitewater, every so often would be a treat. i'm not sure every exhibits open or close would lend itself (bob the builder? not so much.) but this worked as a good tie in. i had a good time. i think my biggest thought/improvement would've been to have the dj's playing on the same level before the bands, or in between sets. but it was fun.
Thanks!
Glad you had a good time - sounds like most everyone did. Hopefully we can do it again soon
