Felicia Matlosz' post about Barbara Walters and her 10 most fascinating people of 2008 show got me thinking that this could be a cool idea for Fresno. So, I'm doing it.
If we can come up with a list (the final talley will be at my discretion of course), I'll do some quick interviews and put it out as a pod-cast (maybe?). Video casting is WAY beyond me. Could be fun right?
What I want to know is: Who do you think is the most fascinating "Fresno" person of 2008. I'll give you one to get you started.
Patrick Contreras.
Thank You
Thank you Brandon for naming my brother Tate and I. I agree with number 7 also along with others that were named. Maryjane works very hard with the youth there at CMC.

1) Reza Assemi - The visionary behind the most tangible kitchen, bathroom, and balcony-having contributions to progress in Fresno.
2) Travis Sheridan - He shares his insight and experience with so many people who have gone on to, and will continue to do great things in Fresno.
3) Fashawn - Most consistency across the board as far as quality recordings, live shows, work ethic, and career moves of any Fresno musician. He's managed to sidestep the hokeyness trap every Fresno musician seems to fall into. Aside from that he's just an interesting kid.
4) Punit Dhesi - Has the creativity and technical acumen necessary to make sure every project he touches looks like "someone from somewhere far away" made it. That benefits everyone in the region who can keep up with him.
5) Sam Hansen - An action oriented proponent of elevating Fresno to be on par with other markets, while everyone else is concerned with being "bigger than Fresno."
6) Leo Rios - Fulton Mall's greatest hope. Him and his establishment embodied a spirit that I hope we're not short on here in Downtown now that they're gone.
7) Hecktik - Does real things while we all think and talk about doing real things. Hah.
8) Bobby Salazar - Tower Sunday Brunch is the most amazing thing ever.
9) Kopi Sotiropulos - His existence in itself is interesting. He's a fascinating character. He's hella Fresno.
10) Mike Osegueda - Mike sees "the big picture" or whatever buzzword or catchphrase you want to use to describe it. He understands culture front and back.
The collective Fresno viewpoint is a full-on Monet, Mike is endowed with the ability to take a step back.
11) Mediocrity in Fresno - In my head I imagine the overall mediocrity of Fresno as a person and I fistfight it.

My list is obviously bias. Bias towards people actively involved in helping bring change, downtown or otherwise.
Fresno owes a lot to them, and this isn't to say they are the only ones at all. Just this nobodies view on people who have character and make a difference.

So what's fascination? I
So what's fascination? I figured, people I'd want to pay attention to what they do next, people who I'd like to know their 'back story', people who I'd love to interview/have interviewed. Sometimes there are fascinating people you're lucky enough to see all the time, so ...you know...you take 'em for granted...so you love them and appreciate them...but, because they are 'part' of your regular life, they are not 'fascinating'[laughs].
so, here's a short-list:
1) my Mom (my biggest remaining link to my family's past)
2) any old disc jockey from the early KFIG or
KYNO-am days
3) Dale Stewart--Capital Punishment (link to original Fresno hard-core/punk shows)
4) Tom from Roeding Park's Food Not Bombs.
--fascinating back story. Extremely humble person who cares a lot for people. My cousin-in-law described him as a 'Catholic Radical'
--that sounded fascinating.
5) Ashley Swearingin--cuz I want to see what she'll do, and hope she'll be a part of moving our town forward.
Now if this was 'just' a list of locals I admire or am proud to call fellow town-mates, I'm happy to say the list would go on and on.
[p.s. nice call on the 'David Remus'--that dude has turned me and countless others onto a lot of cool music]
