Flashback Features returns to Fresno (and a little jump for joy).

Anyone who knows me, knows I've been on this "I'm over seeing movies" kick. At $10, going to the movies has reached that threshold where it's just not an attractive entertainment option.
But, Brodie Mash brings us news of something that changes my mind.
This I can get behind: Classic/cult films shown late at night for next to nothing ($5 is what a movie should cost). And though some of these movies are on my list of all-time faves (I'll sing you the Spaceballs theme, no joke), there are a few that I've somehow yet to see. It's called win/win.

Some of the prints-
The Castro in SF played a number of these films *Goldfinger, Hall, Bull, Escape, Cowboy, Hot* as part of the United Artists 90th anniversary. The good thing was that UA struck new prints of all the films that toured and were shown as a part of this. I went up on the day that they showed Goldfinger and Dr. No as a double feature and the prints both looked amazing. So lets hope that when Goldfinger plays this week that it's one of these new prints because everyone will be in for a treat because this is the best I bet Goldfinger has ever looked on the big screen. Also of note, The Castro will be showing a new 70mm print of West Side Story next week and I can only hope that when they play the film here in Fresno that will be getting this print. There will be a BIG difernce seeing this if we get a 35mm print or a 70mm print.
And I do agree about they do need to spice this up a bit. Most of these films are the same ones that they have played over in Clovis a couple of times. In fact I think all of them played over in Clovis at one time or another. Why not try to get some stuff that hasn't played before. Blade Runner would be a good place to start since there is the new Final Cut prints still playing around the country and seeing this film in a theater on a big screen is the only way to see this film. And what about getting El Topo, The Holy Mountain, or Forbidden Zone? They all toured around the country with new prints at major art houses so I don't see whats hard about getting some of them to play here. Criterion/Janus films also toured some great films that I could see playing as part of this also.
Groovy
While "GOLDFINGER" wouldn't be my first choice for a vintage James Bond flick, I might actually catch it "on the big screen". I think the Flashback people are missing a great opportunity though. Instead of the BIG HITS that everyone has (more or less) on DVD already, why not jazz it up with vintage cult flicks or vintage 3-D or something not so mainstream... Ya know? Still, I'm NOT complaining. It's great to have it back (Just wish it was still in Clovis---sooooo much closer for me).

I've been wanting to go the the Fresno Art Museum for there movie days, but they are shown on a weekday at 2 in the after noon, and most people work during that time. But they have shown some great films like the 3rd Man, and a few Hitchcock films.
I am interested in the 'Some Like It Hot' for the flash back it would be great to see a Billy Wilder film on the big screen, I wish they would show Vertigo.
Yay!x2
I'm so there for Raging Bull.
Yay!
Thats all.
It seems like
movies are the only relatively cheap things to do in town anyway. Beers cost $5 a pop at most places. Dinner will pretty much always get you for more than $10 per person.
In the summer, it's hard to beat the kickass air conditioning and $10 movie ticket. It's probably more expensive to stay home running the AC for three hours. And it's something you can't get at home, even if you have a giant TV.
I only go to maybe four or five movies a year though, so maybe the frequency is important.
