Week 1: Feathered Dinosaur Fun
MONDAY – “Dinosaur Day”: Spend the day learning about the many varieties of dinosaurs including newly-discovered feathered dinosaurs through scientific documents, stories, movies, and hands-on activities.
TUESDAY – “Fun with Fossils: Part I”: Explore the exciting world of fossils via guided discussions and hands-on activities. Best of all, children get to create their very own fossils!
WEDNESDAY – “Fun with Fossils: Part 2”: Have you ever wanted to dig for fossils? In part 2 of “Fun with Fossils,” children will learn about the fields of archeology and paleontology and take part in the Met’s very own Dinosaur Camp Dig.
THURSDAY – “Fun with Fossils: Part 3”: Children will continue their fossil adventure by participating in interactive activities that examine the many varieties of fossils, the conditions under which fossils are formed, and much more!
FRIDAY – “Dinosaur Art and Science Day”: Be both an artist and scientist on the final day of Dinosaur Camp! Campers will create their own three-dimensional dinosaur sculpture based on a guided observation of fossils. The day will be capped off with an exhibition of student-created dinosaurs!
Week 2: Flight: It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane
MONDAY – “It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane!” – Campers will be introduced to the thrilling world of things that fly through animated discussions and hands-on art and science activities.
TUESDAY – “Creatures and Flight” – Children will spend the day learning about creatures that fly, the difference between gliding and flying, and the way creatures have influenced human-made flying machines through animated discussions, movies, and interactive lessons.
WEDNESDAY – “Create Your Own Flying Device: Part I”: Students will build their own flying devices over the course of two days. They will learn about how and why things fly and put their knowledge to use in crafting their own objects that fly or glide.
THURSDAY – “Create Your Own Flying Device: Part II”: See Wednesday for details. Please note that this is a two-part camp session.
FRIDAY – “Space Flight”: Children will have fun exploring large flying objects such as hovercrafts, rockets, and parachutes and participate in creating a group space-flying project!
