Fresno Talk Radio Poll

Anyone notice that when KYNO flips to conservative talk, we'll have three radio stations on AM which broadcast little more than right wing talk radio? Tune into AM-840 out of Modesto, The Patriot. It comes in loud & clear in Hanford, so I'm sure it's clearer in Fresno. Anyhow, that station's programming includes much of what will be aired on the new KYNO-AM 1300 when it flips Tuesday. Seems like a waste of money to me. How that's supposed to compete with KMJ, I don't know. I'm wondering, would enough people in Fresno be interested in pushing for a Progressive Radio station, since currently there is no progressive voice on Valley terrestrial radio? What do you think? Good idea or no?

radio broadcasts

some of these conservitive radio broadcasts remind me of the scene in the film Hotel Rwanda when you hear the ominous radio broadcasts of the RTLM with there outrageous incendiary hate filled statements. I can imagine if it has not happened already on KMJ a broadcast saying "Why do we hate the Left? They are cockroaches…USA is the white mans land. We are the majority. the left are the minority. The Right must kill all the Left…Stay alert – watch your neighbours."

Nothing Wrong With That

I don't think there is anything wrong with having a talk radio as the number one station per se. It would be great to have a wider diversity of stations both conservative and progressive. Better radio hosts would be great as well and less shock formats.

Sad but Fresno is the only city in th3 top 75 metropolis' in America that has a Talk Radio station as the #1 most listened to station

KFPT died because the left doesn't listen?? This is not true. KFPT was always THE 2nd MOST LISTENED TO AM STATION in the Fresno market - the Arbitron numbers reflect that. KFPT didn't have the numbers KMJ had developed over the years, but KFPT was not given a 15-year trial to succeed like KMJ was given. Owners want Fresno to be a one-talk town - conservative (others have tried to compete with 580 and failed, KFRE & KMPH). This makes little sense since around half of Fresno votes Democratic. This may explain why KFPT had the 2nd-most listeners for AM radio. Had owners of KFPT given the same attention they give to KMJ, the station would have succeeded - to what extent, we'll never know. I can say, there is no AM station since KFPT progressive talk (sans kmj) to get the numbers they had while in business - not one.

We get it...

..and we're going to change it on November 4th.

You Guys Don't Get It

KFPT died because the left doesn't listen.

You can read that any number of ways....

I am a victim, a dedicated if imperfect servant of my country, not perfected until I realized that the State is far more important than I am, I love peace, I hate war, I will wage war, I will smite the Muslims, I will kill the Russians, I will strike down anyone who fails to bow the knee to me, I will drill, I will build nuclear power plants, I will care for the jobless, the homeless, the bankrupt, the sick, the oil men, the bankers, the arms merchants, the soldiers, the lobbyists; I was a POW, I bear the scars of Jesus on my body, I was wounded, I was hurt, I was crippled, I was jailed, I was tortured, I was imprisoned, I was gaoled, I was in captivity, I was behind bars, I was held against my will, except when I decided to stay, I told nothing, I told nothing, I told everything, country first, country first, freedom, low taxes, I will stand at your side, not in front of you, world empire, everything for the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State, hail me, hail me, hail me.

Rather than the socialism of the left and the right-wing death call of the neo-conservatives, I'd rather hear a radio station that promoted human liberty and freedom from the state, instead of the "Nanny State" of the left and the "Spy State" of the right.

Fresno Right-wing talk radio saturation

I've been listening this week, off and on to the new KYNO am 1300
and I must say that it is disgusting. Saturday Laura Ingraham was on with psychotic attacks on Obama and gushing, giddy praise for Palin. Saw the Us mag article with her on the cover, had the word scandal peppered throughout. Her name is on the lips of every American. Forget McCain, he's slipped out of the picture. Palin brings the red meat of the Moose field-dressing, anti-pro choice, Global warming denying far far right. They are trying to rally the same base who put W over the top in 2004.

As SJT pointed out, we now have 3 right-wing propaganda radio stations in our area shaping public opinion and policy: KMJ am 580, KMPH am 840 and now KYNO am 1300.

I was hoping for maybe a break from the right on the weekends. Had heard that Jim Boren from the Bee was going to have a show on there. That would help bring some balance.

It doesn't stand for anything. Just like KRZR doesn't stand for anything. It's the station's call letters.

Kill My Justice

What does the K.M.J. acronym stand for?

In regards to Leykis being on the airwayves, it was tried a few years ago when 105.9 was trying it's FM talk format. I can't stand the guy, and hope he's never on Fresno radio ever again. I'd rather listen to Limbaugh then Leykis, and that says a lot.

Fairness in the marketplace of ideas in Fresno. It's not about whether I get to listen to liberal talk or not it's about whether or not both major political parties are represented in Fresno in the biggest forum, Talk Radio. It's the main place where most Fresnans gather to listen and talk. And Democrats have been unfairly shut out of the forum.

Guest, so you're a Liberal,

Being a Fresno liberal, I realize that we are out numbered big time. I'm not as harsh as others, but agree, you will not get liberal talk in the CV over the free air waves.

Go with the flow and go to satellite. Too much sports talk. If I had a choice over the free air, I'd rather have free Radio Disney back than Air America...Just thinking of my kids rather than the party... Sorry, there is more in life than Bill and Hillary.

What about Leykis?

A format like 97.1 Free Fm in Los Angeles would be a nice addition to the Fresno airwaves.

Fresno Talk Radio Poll Comment by Guest

Guest, so you're a Liberal, but not supportive of progressive talk radio for the central valley to include local progressive programming as well? You don't mind being tethered to your pc or sat radio in your car to hear progressive programming, nor do you want your fellow Liberal friends to hear progressive radio when they can neither afford Sirius Left 146 or XM's America Left 167? (I have Sirius). I'm only seeking data which may answer whether there is support for for Liberal talk radio in Fresno - looking for numbers. So are you saying you're a Liberal against local Liberal talk radio in Fresno? You wouldn't listen if we got one? Just making sure.

Too bad the convention had to be scaled back because of a hurricane 600 miles away. The commander in chief even canceled his appearance tomorrow. And the VP canceled also. But, the convention still must go on. They have to have a Roll Call and tally up the votes to make the nomination legal. So they have to have proceedings on the floor. They said they couldn't have any kind of celebrations while a large-scale disaster is going on. In my opinion the reason is because it might make them look bad. Could it be because people may be thinking about Katrina since it's almost 3 years exactly to the day since it hit in 2005?

Some people were praying for rain while Obama spoke at Invesoe Field in front of 84,000 people on thursday. It looks like, if there is someone up there controlling the weather, they're trying to make the Republicans look as bad as possible and hand the presidency over to the Democrats on a silver platter.

Fresno Talk Radio Poll

Jeez it was mentioned sometime ago that you little and insecure liberals could not get your little radio over the free air should spend a little money and subscribe to satellite radio like I did.

I'm a liberal but when you little people complain that Rush, KMJ 580. and other are holding us down....TOO BAD.

Harden up and get a spine...As a liberal, you central valley folks are a disappointment.

I should post a link to XM or Sirius, but you probably should know this.

A smart and intelligent liberal(I'm thinking that the CV lib's are pusses.) would know this.
Sorry about the wake up call.
Think about it!

I love KFCF, too. I'm a supporter and member.
But, We are stuck here in Fresno with either Right-Wing hate talk such as Limbaugh or Hannity on KMJ or Far-Left Peace activist talk on KFCF. Where is the middle? How about some moderate Democrat points of view?

When KFPT am790 was doing Air America they had some shows from the Jones radio network, like Ed Schultz, a hunting and fishing
Democrat. He could be a Valleycrat.

Mark Scalzo also had a local issues show on KFPT that was fantastic. I am so disappointed that KYNO is bringing more bigoted talk with Dr. Laura and O'Reilly.

KFCF

88.1 does a good job of bringing a voice less heard to Fresno. I try to spend more time on that channel than KMJ, you hear Rush for a few minutes and you know what the entire week is about. Every time I hear KFCF I really get the feeling I'm hearing real people share real knowledge that is typically masked by mass media. Really appreciate 88.1.
