Fresno/Clovis Public Transportation?

As i write this i wonder what kind of responses i'll get, if any.

another dilemma.

i am the mother of an 8th grader who attends school in Clovis although we live in central Fresno. she has never gone to a Fresno school and since kindergarten i've had her transfered to Clovis and committed to a drive that has been anything but convinient. i do so because i simply feel the school she currently attends is superior to the one in our district. okay thats not the point.

with this decision i made the commitment to drive her to and from school daily then make the trek downtown to work.

i am also a student at Fresno State. School starts for both of us on Monday. My dilemma is this:

i am close to graduating which means the classes im taking are not offered at my convinience. any college student knows that as you get closer to graduations the classes you need are sporadic and you pretty much need to fit into the schools schedule rather than your own. simply put, i work around my classes. this semester i've found myself in scheduling hell.

MWF i dont have class til 11am. 11-2 to be exact. what this means is, i'll go to work then leave work, go to school, come back to work then time to go home. this is what my driving routine will be:

7:15am - take kid from home (Ashlan/First) to school. (Willow/Nees)

7:45am - drive from Willow/Nees to work (Downtown)

10:30am - drive from Downtown to school (Cedar/Barstow)

2:15pm - drive from school back Downtown

6:00pm - drive from Downtown to Willow/Nees to pick up kid from school/basketball practice
then finally home to Ashlan/First.

UUUUHHHHHHH! gas prices! last semester i spent $70 a week in gas. My schedule was nothing like this. i fear that gas prices are going to be the death of me. not to mention the havoc i'm wreaking on the environment. i feel like a one woman army out to kill the ozone layer.

the obvious choice would be to take the city bus to and from school BUT that would take an extra hour away from work. an extra hour this single mom cannot afford to miss out on.

i have always prided myself on being self sufficient never relying on government aid save for the financial aid and student loans that pay for my tuition. but i tell ya, if Welfare was handing out gas cards, i'd be all up in that line! cause at the rate i'm going, by the time i graduate, i am going to be soooo far in debt with student loans; money that goes directly into my gas tank!

HELP!!! any clever ideas on how to work this out. there's just gotta be a better way!

I'd like to see you on skates facing a spoiled whiner.

Atleast she is a productive member of Fresno.
Bet you wouldn't last long on skates.
Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

a tiny violin & some general suggestions

although i wasn't the guest, i can't say i've got too much sympathy for your situation. you admit you made choices that cause you to drive excessively. it sucks, but you've got to live with it.

but here are some possible solutions:
-get out your skates. you're a rear bustin roller derby grl, why not put in a few more miles?
-how about a bike? i'm sure e.field can recommend something nice to meet your needs.
-invest in a scooter. if you've got a few grand, they get great mileage. or even an electric one.
-or, vote for ashley swearengen (did i spell that right?). she's all for fresno getting jetsons bubble cars...errr...i mean...personal transportation pods.

i used to ride the bus to work/school/home/etc, and it just doesn't cut it time-wise.

Damn Joey, that was nicer than I expected.

So Famous Guest, what have you done to contribute to society given the fact you are judging everyone else?

Ya chucklehead.

Thats a great idea!

Dang! Why hadnt i thought of that sooner? Just move school and work closer to my home!
Gosh, thats so easy and convinient, i wonder how i didnt come up with that brilliant idea sooner!?
Geez, you are quite the genius, "famous guest."
Thank you so much for the most obvious and SIMPLE answer because leaving a great job with benefits that i've worked at for close to 8 years seems to make the most sense here.
And you know, with all the job opportunities jumping out at me, gosh, how could i be so silly to not have thought of that myself?

i sooooo appreciate your input, "famous guest." really, just move her school closer. wow. that is just brillz. love your thoughts and insight. really, where would i be with out you?

and to remind me that i'm spoiled. thank you so much. because who would've thought that having worked since i was 15, never once leaving a job, well once for 6 weeks maternity leave, was considered spoiled?
and how was i to know that sharing in this forum that after realizing my irresponsibility in getting pregnant out of wedlock and busting my ass to stay far away from government aid and get back into school was viewed as whiney without you telling me so? well hell, "famous guest," you have really enlightened me and made me see the error of my ways.

thank you so much for schooling me in the fine art of "giving up and shutting up."

you have been of great help to me.

Choose sides

Just give up, or shut up and suffer like the rest of the people and be thankful for what you already have.

But for the simple solution. Move school and work closer to home, or move closer to school and work.

Now please stop being a spoiled whiner.
