Thank you!
THANKS! You both have given me some good info to further investigate.
I wanna keep a Fresno base, but be able to drive into the hills to sleep at night. Trying to buy my first home, and after 34 years in Fresno, it isn’t gonna be here on the hot Valley floor...

Idiots. The smog comes from industry and cars in the valley. When it gets hot the inversion layer traps all the emissions so they can't escape. Wind will just blow it in and then right back out again . If it is windy we rarely have smog. http://environmentamerica.org/news-releases/clean-air/clean-air2/study-s...
The smog line will drop off around 2,000-3,000 feet. If you drive down from TAble Mountain/Millerton area you can actually see the smog line.

LOL, it does not end, but really a lot of the Smog you see in the Valley really comes from the Bay Area, since our winds are flowing from north to south, check out the wind flow maps.
speaking of 'Fog Lines', there is a point from the valley fog in the winter, cuts off in the foothills I think it's somewhere around the 2,000 foot level.
I do feel that the air in the valley is a little cleaner now than it was ten years ago, thanks to that some AG burning was reduced, Like I've said for years now, if the Raisin farmers can put down those paper drying trays then they can pick them up and recycle them instead of burning them in September.
Thank you!
