A goodbye to Milano and Zapp's: Was it me?

This is beginning to feel like a long case of deja vu.

Milano is closing.

Zapp's Park is closing.

And I wonder, was it me?

I bemoan the loss of both places, while wondering where my personal responsibilities lie. Support of an idea is not enough. I loved the idea of Milano as a wonderfully close place to go hang out/drink beer/grab a bite. Did I do any of those things much as I should have? Nope. I love the idea of Zapp's Park as a teeny-tiny totally cool place to see a rock band. Did I go there/try to book my band there often enough? Apparently not.

Obviously, I'm just one person and my habits won't make or break a business. But I doubt I'm alone in this.

No Tengo Dinero

As said before it takes a populace with cash in their pockets to keep businesses like these open. When the price of a couple of beers or glasses of wine and tapa would provide one with meals at home for three days and one must choose...one must choose.

It's not you

First of all...

Thanks for the spot in the Fresno Famous Newsletter today.

Second... It wasn't you.

All of us who patronized or performed in these places did what we could to bring in the people. It's just the people are out of money.

The basic ingredient for a consumer society is consumers with cash in their pockets.

Next Thursday is the last Milano Thurday noon jam, really any style is welcome, acoustic only.

Live music venues

Wow, and with the Crossroads recent closure the live music venues are thinning out.

If there's anyone that it

If there's anyone that it WASN'T, it's Famous, Fresnoise, and Fresnan. If not for you guys, this would've happened 2 years ago. thx

It was me...

In my humble opinion, If either of those enterprising individuals would re-open in the old Cafe Midi on Maroa & Fern, next door to the Brass Unicorn they would do more business than at either of the previous locations. There's parking and foot traffic.

Over the last few years, I've seen at least two different ABC application notices on the front door, followed by months of "remodeling" only to see nothing flower, except the community garden out back. If it's not big enough, knock down the wall to the old Archer's music and add to it.

I'll bet a dollar to a donut plans are in the works, as we speak for new night clubs to take up where those guys left off. It amazes me that there are always willing seekers to try to make it in a spot where the best and the brightest could not make a business work.

Was it me too?

I say it wasn't you. I too could've gone to Milano and Zapps more but the fact that I went to these places every now and then, I think, is enough to remove most guilt. Add your band playing both places and you should be guilt free too... I guess
