No matter the outcome of the bigoted, anti-gay Proposition 8, know this:
homophobes will reap what they have sown.
These bigots will either find themselves in unhappy marriages to the closeted homosexuals they've hounded into living a lie or their marriages will end in bitter divorce, when their closeted gay or lesbian spouses will leave them for a same-sex partner because they don't want to live the lie anymore.
Worse, still, is the possibility that heterosexual wives will find themselves HIV positive, as closeted gay men in sham marriages to women tend to have risky, anonymous gay sex, bringing home whatever diseases they might catch. Heterosexual husbands might also find themselves diseased, if their closeted lesbian wives happen to catch something.
Worst of all, is what will happen to the gay children of homophobes, who will undoubtedly lead unhappy, lonely, desperate lives under the cruel thumbs of their bigoted parents. Such children often grow up with suicidal tendencies and substance abuse problems until they learn that harming themselves does not, in fact, "get back" at their abusive parents.
If none of this appeals to you, then, for the love of God, VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION 8!
Ed's right. I believe it's
Ed's right. I believe it's 400,000 signatures to get a law onto the ballot, and 700,000 to propose an amendment the state constitution (i.e., Prop 8).
Make fun of my optimism all you want, but I refuse to offer support to anything propelled by fear. It might get you the signatures you need for a proposition, but it won't drive the acceptance that you're really seeking.
i disagree
it would be allowed if there was enough signatures.
Spread Love, Not Fear?
Awww. How nice. Cumbayah, and all that, huh?
What you're really saying is that gays and our straight supporters have to play Mr. Nice Guy.
Well, I've had it up to HERE with that routine. It's what keeps costing Democrats the elections, it's what has dragged the modern Left towards the center and it's what the WWII era called, "appeasement."
It doesn't work.
You give the radical Right an inch and they'll take a mile (pun intended).
Proposition 8 never should have been allowed on the ballot. Imagine if rapists sought to put a pro-rape measure on the ballot. Or if white racists sought to put a pro-slavery proposition on the ballot. Better still, what if the gays, lesbians, bisexuals, intersexed, transvestites and transgendered tried to put an anti-straight marriage proposition on the ballot.
It would never be allowed!
Do you see the double standard?
What pido

Mykel, I'm voting no on 8,
Mykel, I'm voting no on 8, and hope others will as well, but I have to admit that the rhetoric in posts like this are polarizing, and have a propensity to push those on the fence about their decision onto the side that they feel is safest.
Spread love, not fear. No on 8.
