How Current Economy Effects Musicians

With the economy tanking, more musicians are coming out of the woodworks, performing, recording, and releasing new music. Why do you think this is? Could it be due to more free time since we are all unemployed? Is it stress which leads to inspiration? I'd like to hear some opinions on why all of a sudden everyone is pulling there guitars out and creating!

I personally am unemployed due to major company lay-offs, and have had a terrible time trying to find employment. In the mean time, I've created more music than ever before. Has anyone else experienced this?

it's not the economy

it's that people have been told, more and more for the last 30 years that anyone can get up on the stage. Also, the word has gotten out that some highly successful musicians are big idiots. People are convinced that they can do it just as well. Every cultural special interest group has their own range of aspiring musicians. There's even more pay-to-play now than there ever was before. And so everybody and their uncle is in a band or plays the guitar and is absolutely convinced they know what music is all about.
And maybe they do. Maybe this is the musical part of the big revolution that's going on now.
