It's called Smokey's Grill. It's delicious & one of the best new places I have been to in ages.
We found this place 3 weeks ago & have been back 3 times.
It's small, it's clean and man, it smells good when you walk in.
It appears they make their own sauces & spice blends (as evidenced by the simple glass counter display).
I know they make ALL of their own sides. I am fond of their greens & chili beans. There is also Cajun Fried Rice, potato salad, corn bread & more. Oh yeah, peach cobbler & 7-Up cake.
They generally have some $4.99 special for you downtowner lunch gotta-getters.
It's a nice place, run by nice people with a really great product.
Smokey's really deserves downtown's and Fresno's support.
A rib dinner with 2 sides fed two of us. $9.25.
Also, I am not too sure I am brave enough to try it but have been told repeatedly that the Mo Meat Burger is big enough for two (including being warned of it's size by the owners). 2 burger patties, 2 pcs. bacon, 1 hot link, American cheese, with all the trimmings.
Smokey's may not be recommended for politically correct dining, but man, it is recommended. Hurry down there.
Tulare & E Street, on Tulare. Downtown.
Thanks for the heads up,
Thanks for the heads up, didn't even realize this place existed. When I was living in the bay area it would be a ritual to stop at Everette & Jones in Oakland once a month. Some of the best BBQ in the country.
