Italian Feast of San Gennero Festival

Italian Feast of San Gennaro
2nd annual festival

Fresno, California.... The festival is a celebration of the Italian culture that began in New York over 80 years ago. For the owners of Mother Mary’s Wood Flavored Pizza, opening the restaurant was the first step in bringing that culture to Fresno. We are taking a step further and really involving this city in a celebration of our heritage.

September 27 from 11am – 700pm we will have our 1st Annual Italian Festival of San Gennaro at Piazza Del Fiore at the NE Corner of Champlain & Perrin. This event will benefit the Central California Blood Bank.

Saturday 9/27/07 the event runs from 11a – 7pm

Your day can be spent at the Italian Feast viewing cooking demonstrations, visiting local farmers, playing carnival games, children’s bounce house, live entertainment, donate blood and of course great Italian food
If you are Italian or just enjoy Italian food you will want make sure to attend this year’s 1st annual Italian Feast of San Gennaro of Fresno
Admission is free. www.italianfeastfresno.com

We went to the festival last year when it
first cam out, thought it was a nice event
for the area. We went back again yesterday
and had a very nice time.
The food was good and the activities were nice,
hope it happens again next year, its a nice
family event for the neighborhood. We'll be
back next year if u have it again.

What precisely is a "feast day?"

The festival of San Gennaro is primarily a day dedicated to....

HONORING SAINT GENNARO.

His cult is primarily associated with Italians, especially Italian Americans, as St. Gennaro, or St. Januarius, was a Bishop of Naples executed by the Roman Emperor Diocletian.

He is reverenced in the Roman Catholic Church, and in the eastern Orthodox Churches (Armenian, Ukrainian, Russian, Greek, etc...)

I hope that the religious roots of this "feast" are not lost.
