Just Moved Here: What is the best Internet Service In Fresno?

Hey everyone!

I heard about this site from a co-worker. I just moved here from LA and am needing internet service. What company seems to be the best speed wise. So far it only seems I have two choices, AT&T or Comcast. Any others? Which do you find has better service, fastest etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So far I am really digging Fresno.

thanks,
Andrew

Comcast vs. AT&T

I have used both and I can say that Comcast is much faster but it is more expensive. ATT&T is fast if you get the Top end of their packages which is like $35 a month plus a phone line. I think it comes to $50 a month. With ATT you can use their free WiFi spots at Mcdonalds, Barnes and Nobles, and Starbucks. If you are on the go a lot for work, travel, etc. that's a pretty good deal.

I would have to say that customer service with ATT sucks but despite some instances they have always fixed everything.

Comcast is beginning trials in three markets and may be starting to meter bandwidth soon, http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/06/04/comcast-to-trial-new-network-manage...

However, if you are just looking for super fast internet go with Comcast.

Never Mind The Bullocks Kingsburg Is Awesome! http://www.kingsburgbuzz.com

you are correct antimusick (about the taps). but everything any of us has ever done on the internet has been documented, down to every last email and chat you've ever sent (thanks patriot act!). I just have a particular aversion towards AT&T.

you know, i saw some commercial for a cricket usb cellular internet connection for like $40 a month. that seems like a pretty awesome option for laptop users.

it depends

Are you using a laptop? If you get DSL from the phone company you also get a list of dialup numbers for any area that your phone company has service, this is something you can't get if you choose cable Internet.
I pay less than $30 a month for phone and DSL, and now with DTV who needs cable for a clear TV picture.

Choose cable if you want your Internet records given up to industry's like the RIAA with out a court order, there are laws on searching and tapping phone lines but there are no laws like that protect you with cable services.

If you live out side of highspeed / broadband services

Hughes Net is very cool that you can have a dish and place it anywhere in the world and connect to the Internet, but it's pricey and they limit you to no more than 200mb download a day (as of last year they did).

Comcast. In all fairness to AT&T, Comcast has done some shady things, too, such as throttling or blocking bittorrent traffic. But they're the best of a bad lot in Fresno. And I don't think you'll have complaints about the speed if you go with them.

you won't be disappointed with comcast. the speed bursts are unreal. i hate to sound like a corporate shill here, but its only $99/month for cable + internet + phone.

please don't support AT&T. they are Anti Net Neutrality and have some pretty extreme plans. if they had their way, you could kiss sites like this goodbye along with all other user contributed sites. In a nutshell, their agenda is to turn the internet into a big one-way commercial, catering to only the richest corporations and banning all who have not paid the price for their internet presence. no more personal websites, no more blogs, no more bit torrent, no more nothin, unless they say its ok. I realize that this is an extreme worst case scenario, but you'd better believe that this is what these corporate executives are talking about behind their closed doors.

Comcast. I get download bursts up to almost 20 megabits. With TV service it's something like $45/month. $55 w/o.
