For this week's installment of The List, I'd like to someone to help me find a good coffee place that is not Starbucks.
Actually, I'd like to find several good places, all across town, so I have choices when I am out and about. Doesn't matter if it's an independent place or a drive-thru or whatever. Just a decent cup 'o joe when I need it.
OK, I'll start with:
Echo St. Coffee, which used to be Java Wava. I like this place a lot. The location is good and the vibe is what I'm looking for. Truth be told I have yet to have the coffee, but I'd still recommend.
I heard rumors of a place next to Milano of the Fulton Mall. Also, someplace on the corner of Bullard and Marks avenues? Anyone?
More from The List
Cheap coffeeshop serving Cafe Corazon coffee
CAFE (Collective for Arts, Freedom and Ecology) Fresno serves cheap coffee, tea, and bagels. They're open Monday-Friday 11am-3pm. Coffee is $1 and they serve Cafe Corazon roasted coffee. The menu is all vegan. The coffeeshop also has a library with books, movies, and a computer. And there's free wi-fi to boot.
The CAFE Fresno is in Chinatown/downtown.

My faves and those that aren't ...
For the most part, I'm homebrewing with El Cafe Corazon fresh roasted beans. Just can't beat the price, freshness and TASTE. I just send an e-mail to elcafecorazon@gmail.com and Leo lets me know when my coffee is ready :)
My fave stop around town is Dutch Bros. at Bullard/West. They make real espressos and don't look at me funny when I just want a triple with half and half - that's it, no fancy stuff LOL!
Planet Javas are ok but alot of the employees aren't used to making a plain espresso, so I don't usually bother.
Retro Expresso is good, but a little more expensive. My kids loved the drink that has peanut butter in it - pretty darn yummy even to a purist like me.
Sierra Nut House is good, but alot of times the service is not friendly so I don't go there either.
I thought the Grind closed down a long time ago? Hope I'm wrong ...
I wish I lived near the place with the Turkish coffee - sounds like they might knock my socks off :)
Nut House
self-correction: it was at Bullard and Palm. RiverPark, their new location is a PITA to get through though I did recently discover that there is a back entry off of Ingram and Bedford.
Illy coffee
Illy coffee is really good. One of my personal favorites. Retro Expresso also serves Illy brand coffees.
Now I'm craving an Iced Mocha. I guess that's what I get for reading this thread again. The horrible power of suggestion gets me everytime. HA HA
Sierra Nut House
They roast their own. I wish they were still at Bullard and Marks.
Dutch Brothers
Best coffee...and you can actually taste the coffee! 2 Locations. Ashlan and Willow and Bullard and West. Drive through only, but worth it...

Oops. The new Piazza del
Oops. The new Piazza del Pane location is at Herndon and Palm (not Fresno Street).
Peet's, Illy and Organic Fair-Trade
If you're a Peet's fan, Piazza del Pane is the only place in town that I know of that serves it. They're locally owned with one location at Cedar and Nees and a new one at Herndon and Fresno.
But I'm a big fan of Echo Street Coffee. Looks to me like they're serving Ily Coffee. Their double espresso is to die for.
The nice thing about La Boulangerie is that they serve organic regular and decaf. Does anyone know if anyone else in town serves organic fair-trade coffee?
Does anyone know what kind of coffee Revue serves? I've never been able to tell.
Thanks!

Good coffee
Good coffee and great atmosphere (and yummy fresh pastries) can be found at La Boulangerie in Fig Garden Village at Shaw and Palm. Wonderful outdoor patio with mister system and shade too.
Home Brew
You can still get the amazing coffee from Leo, former owner of the brick-an-mortar Cafe Corazon who hand-roasts small batches weekly for customers.
To me, a home brew on a Sunday morning with a good book beats a coffee shop any day...

The Grind at Champlain and
The Grind at Champlain and Perrin.
Planet Java at Shaw and West.
Is the Fulton Mall place you reference Cafe Corazon, which shut down last year?
I still haven't found a place that has really consistently good regular coffee, which is a shame.
coffee
where on the mall is that coffee place?
not a coffee shop but izis
not a coffee shop but izis in the vallarta grocery store lot on butler and chestnut does a mean Turkish coffee. add some baklava and your golden.
More coffee
The Revue. Maybe a more well known option, but good none the less. Great coffee, and who doesn't love the tower district.
Then there's Dutch Bros. Ashlan and Willow, also at Bullard and West.
Not Coffee ...
but love the atmosphere at Teazers in Tower.
Retro Expresso
At Bullard and Marks in the library parking lot you will find great coffee at Retro Expresso. One of the little drive up places.
She has the best coffee and iced mochas.
She also has smoothies and the yummiest looking muffins. I haven't tried the smoothies or the muffins but the look great.
The place is hard to spot if you are just driving by on either Bullard or Marks. As it is hidden in the library's parking lot, behind the Credit Union.
I am at the library once a week so I discovered this place awhile back. If you are out that direction, check it out yo won't be disappointed.
